Phylliss passed away Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the Walworth County Care Center in Selby.

Phylliss Pudwill was born on March 23, 1935, in Hoven, SD, to Emil and Gertrude (Goebel) Gross. She grew up in Gettysburg, SD, and graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1953. Phylliss married Richard "Dick" Pudwill on June 28, 1956, in Gettysburg.

Phylliss loved her country and her community and dedicated much of her life to being a public servant. Phylliss worked as an Executive Secretary for the Selective Service System from 1964-1976. She served as Walworth County Treasurer from 1977-1988. In 1989 Phylliss started working at Cahill and Associates until 2022.  In 1995 Phylliss was elected as a Walworth County Commissioner, the first woman to be elected to this position, where she served five terms.

Phylliss was an active member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Selby. She and Dick traveled many places including Paris, France, to see their son, Greg, and Germany to visit her son Darcy and a few times the Christmas markets in Germany with her sister Yvonne. She loved antiquing and also enjoyed attending auction sales, and anything that got her outside, from growing flowers to pulling weeds.

Holidays were a big deal in the Pudwill household. Halloween was a particular favorite of Phylliss's. Each Memorial Day she decorated her home with photos and mementos to honor family members, past and present, who were military veterans. She told stories about each person and proudly kept the display up from Memorial Day through the 4th of July.

Phylliss is survived by her husband, Richard of Selby, son, Greg of Selby, sisters, Joyce Kobeski, Elaine Storkson, Judy (Monte) Schneider, brother-in-law Richard "Dick" Brown, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, son, Richard Darcy, brothers, Raymond (Fran) and Richard (Zola), sisters, Alma Norman, Dorothy (Don) Shawgo, Yvonne Brown, Shirley (Earl) Heck, Mildred Thomas, Ruth (Francis) Doerr and brothers-in-law Ed Kobeski and Chuck Storkson.

She was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be dearly missed.
