Obituary

Funeral services for Phyllis Prasek, 89, of Selby will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, December 22, 2025 at St. John Lutheran Church in Selby. Burial will be at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery. Visitation will start at 5 PM with a prayer service at 5:30 Sunday at the church.

Phyllis went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 14, 2025. Phyllis was the ninth child born on December 23, 1935 to John and Lena (Herman) Landis.  She was born on the land her parent's homesteaded. She attended Landis and Red Top school through the 8th grade. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Trail City, SD.

She was her dad's right hand on the farm until her parents retired and moved to Mobridge, SD.  Phyllis cleaned houses for the elite, worked at the old Rail Road Hospital and the Tastee Bakery in Mobridge.

While working at the hospital, she met her favorite friend Oscar Prasek, Jr.  They married on April 3, 1955. They had two daughters, Deborah (Reed) and Cynthia (Nevill).

Phyllis and Jr. farmed north of Mound City the first 3 years of marriage. Hail and army worms wiped them out, so they moved to Mobridge in 1958. In 1966 they moved to Selby where she worked for Smith Locker Plant and in 1970 went to work at the Good Samaritan in Selby and Herried. Phyllis proudly showed her grandchildren around the nursing home when they visited.

Phyllis enjoyed raising flowers, gardening, canning, baking, and cooking for her grandchildren. She was well known for her fresh bread, caramel rolls, cookies, pickles and lefsa.

She was very proud to help her husband with the Walworth County Veteran's Memorial. Equally proud to represent Selby in the Quasi Centennial as their Grand Marshall in 2025.

Member of St John's Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid, Selby, The American Legion Auxiliary, Selby, former Eagles Club in Mobridge, Moose Club, Mobridge.

She is survived by her daughter Deborah Reed, Madison, grandson Brian Reed (Kailah Riedesel), Wentworth, granddaughters Laura Reed, Madison, SD and Ashley Reed, Rapid City.  Daughter, Cynthia Nevill, (Daniel), Tea, SD, Grandsons Michael (Haleigh) Nevill, Sioux Falls great grandson, Asher, Christopher Nevill, Tea, great grandson Daniel, brother-in-law, Delbert Prasek, sister-in-law, Dawn Hanson.
