Burial is at Dupree Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD. Visitation will be 6PM, Wednesday, May 20, 2015, with a rosary at 7PM at the church. Patty passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at IHS of Eagle Butte as the results of an automobile accident.
Patty was born May 22, 1961 in Faith, SD, to Louie and Marianne (Dunn) Knight. She joined her family at the family ranch on Ash Creek. She loved animals, especially horses. As a youngster, she developed her love for animals that followed her through her life. She had a pet hawk, who she called Hawkeye, and of course Bambi. She had a special gift with animals. One day she rode into the yard with a coyote at the end of her rope.
Patty attended school at Red Scaffold and C-EB. She was very active in high school rodeos, always in the winning circle at barrel racing, break-away roping, and team roping. She would jockey at the CRST Fair when asked. She was an expert at showing a horse, running a ranch, pulling calves, sorting and gathering cows.
Patty was a hard worker and always held a job. Anyone who had a conversation with Patty was considered family. It didn't matter who you were, if you were with Patty on a Sunday morning, Easter, or Christmas; you might found yourself at the Catholic Church in Cherry Creek. When walking to Patty's house, you could be greeted by a colt, a calf, a pig, a fox, a raccoon, a hawk, or a couple of goats.
Lantry is where she started her cattle herd with three bum calves: Bodacious, Honey, and Sally. This is when her boys were born and learned the old cowboy ways on how to run a ranch. The cowboy skills she got from her dad Louie, Uncle Jess Knight, Uncle Ed "Beaver" Widow. She also passed these skills on to her nieces, nephews and any young kid willing to learn.
Patty's BIA house was the hot spot for every kid around. You could find trampoline rodeos, bucking barrel contests, dummy roping contests, and dirt bike races. This is when she met her soulmate, Shannon "Tall Horse" Lawrence.
From there, Patty, Shannon, and her kids moved back to where her heart belonged…Ash Creek. Ash Creek is where Patty was truly home. You could find numerous family and friends there.
We will miss Patty's numerous adventures of night riding, spot lighting, night fishing, hunting prairie dogs, hosting her own rodeo, and taking you on a drive through the pastures. What will be missed the most is Patty's pranks and teasing. Her laugh was one of a kind.
Although Patty will be deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing that she is with her dad Louie, sister Jill, niece Desiree, grandparents Wally and Sarah Knight, Marguerite Kenyon, and the love of her life Shannon Lawrence.
Grateful in sharing her life are her children, Bobbi (Mark) Misar, Tomi (Mike) Wiggins, Sasha, Rylee and William, her mom Marianne, brothers, Deb, Nick (Trish) , Pete (Mar), Robert (Dondra); sisters D'Ann (Jim) Traversie, Heidi (George) Stevenson, Jo (Bud) Lawrence, Lacey (DJ) Knight; grandchildren Pace Maynard, Lani, Jase, and Marty Jo Misnar. Patty leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, hunka children, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
