Memorial services for Owen L. Bakkegard, 76, Mobridge, SD will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge with military honors provided by the Parker Browder Mobridge American Legion Post 4. Owen passed away unexpectedly on July 21, 2022 in Mobridge, SD. Inurnment will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD at a later date.

Owen Lynn Bakkegard was born August 27, 1945 in Oakes, ND to N.J.(Mike) and Clarann Bakkegard. He grew up in Fullerton.  After high school graduation, he attended college in Ellendale, ND.  Owen joined the US Army and served in Ethiopia, Africa. When he returned to ND he began his career with MDU in Ellendale and continued with the company until his retirement in Mobridge. Owen was proud to serve with the Honor Guard in Mobridge and participated on many occasions bearing the flag that meant so much to him.

Left to mourn his passing are his daughters, Donna (Troy) Trueblood, Brittany (Steve) Turpin and his son, Clark.  He is survived by his 8 grandchildren. He is also survived by 6 siblings Norman (Sharron) Bakkegard, Betty(Rod) Larson, Bev Curtis, Bonnie (Ernie) Gilbertson, Bruce (Deb) Bakkegard, and Nancy (Martin) Thompson. Owen was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Maria and his wife Ginger.
