Nellie May Ducheneaux was born the second Child of five to Edward and Alice (Oltmanns) on May 2, 1935 at the Old Cheyenne Agency. She grew up on the family ranch near Promise, SD. She attended grade school in Promise until the seventh grade then attended Stephan Boarding School in Stephan, SD until her senior year, finally attending and graduating from Mobridge High School. After graduation, she attended and graduated from National Business College in Rapid City, SD. After graduation, she began working at the Mobridge Livestock Exchange where she met Vic. They were married on November 23, 1956 in Pierre, SD. They made their home at Promise were they ranched , raised their family and resided until the time of their deaths. Nellie worked for a short time with the Old Cheyenne Agency and thereafter went home to become a stay at home mom and help Vic with the Ranch.
Nellie enjoyed the occasional chat with her friends and family. It was not uncommon for her to spend hours on the phone or in town at the casino visiting with her friends. She liked playing cards with Vic, her sisters, children and grandchildren. Nellie loved assembling puzzles during the winter months to keep her busy. You would never stop by Nellie's when there wouldn't be a cup of coffee waiting for you. You also couldn't walk through the door without expecting to find an argument not unlike her mother Alice. She was a giving person and would always go out of her way to help. She did like to know what was going on though. Nellie was a good cook. She enjoyed having visitors for meals, however if you were an over night guest you must abide by her #1 rule, If you aren't up by 9 for breakfast you don't eat till noon.
