On Monday, September 7, 2020, Mitchell Struxness, passed peacefully at his home San Tan Valley, Arizona. Mitchell was born on January 2, 1954 in Jamestown, North Dakota to Arnold and Marjoline (Guenther) Struxness. He was raised in Rapid City, South Dakota but frequently spent summers on the Guenther Homestead located north of Jamestown helping his grandparents and working for his Uncle Harland (Artis) McKenzie. He grew up with a love of baseball. This love carried over to his adult years when he was able to sponsor local youth baseball teams. He also loved swimming and had saved two lives with the skills he learned.
After his graduation from Central High School in Rapid City he worked for various companies driving heavy machinery until he met and married Sheila Naasz on August 18, 1979. They met while he was working on the bridge outside of Mobridge, SD. They later moved to Hazen, North Dakota area where he worked at Basin Electric for over 20 years, ran a pest control and lawn care company, and raised three children. Towards the end of his career, he became involved with his Local 49ers Union and operated a crane on wind tower projects. He was a proud Union member of IBEW Union as well. Retirement brought him to purchasing his home in Arizona where him and his wife, children and grandchildren could enjoy warm weather during the cold months up in the Dakota's.
Mitchell had a passion for his family. He worked hard all his life to provide a lifestyle for them in hopes to bring them happiness. Mitchell's "Love Language" was gifts; and a good greeting card would always do the trick to bring a smile upon his face when he received one. His personality was boisterous, his attitude was generous, and his smile was infectious. He was always out to make the "good deal" and was persuasive enough to get things done that he wanted to. He held little discrimination against a person just because they may not have as much as him, but instead always was generous in doing what he could for them or providing a job for them to work at.
The last fifteen years brought grand children into his life. A light shown through him like nothing the family ever seen before. He lived through the grandchildren. It brought characteristics out that were seldom seen in a man of his nature. His blue eyes lit up the room when they were there. The love that he bestowed on them will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila (Naasz) Struxness; his three children, Sean Struxness, Danielle (Brent) Mittelsteadt, Darin Hassel, and Corey Struxness; grandchildren, Dillion Hassel, Austin Mittelsteadt, Navalyn Hassel, Journey Hassel, Rylan Mittlesteadt, Elijah Struxness and Brooklynn Entzel; his mother Marjoline Self; his siblings David (Mary) Tompkins, Dana Tompkins, Kathy (David) Roth, and Marlene Struxness along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mitch was preceded into death by his father, Arnold Struxness and daughter in law Jennie Cher Bison.
