Funeral services for Millie V. Lutz age 92 of Mobridge will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the UCC Church in Mobridge. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be at 4 PM Wednesday with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at the funeral home. Mrs. Lutz passed away Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Millie Lutz was born on September 25, 1924 to Gottlieb and Rosina (Kulm) Holzwarth on the family farm near Lowry, SD. She was baptized on January 4, 1925 and confirmed on June 13, 1937 at the Congregational Church in Lowry. Millie grew up in the Lowry area where she attended school. She worked at a grocery store in Gettysburg for a few years and it was during this time that Fred Lutz asked her for a date and a ride in his new car.
On March 8, 1948 Millie and Fred were united in marriage at the Congregational Church in Lowry. They made their home in Lowry until 1951 when they moved to Millie's parent's farm. They purchased the farm and farmed for nearly 25 years until selling it in 1975. While living in Lowry, Millie was a member of the Congregational Church, the Pilgrim Daughters, and served as church pianist for many years. She was a 25-year member of the Friendly Circle Extension Club.
Millie and Fred moved to Mobridge in September of 1975 where they became members of the United Congregational (UCC) Church in Mobridge. Millie sang in the church choir in both Lowry and Mobridge for many years. She was a member of the UCC Women's Fellowship group, the Mobridge Hospital Auxiliary, and the Red Hatter's.
Millie and Fred enjoyed traveling and took many trips in their motor home. Millie will be remembered for her excellent cooking and baking. While in Mobridge she enjoyed hosting coffee parties for friends and family. Millie and Fred enjoyed decorating their home for Christmas. They hosted Christmas dinners for their family at their home for many years. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Millie became a resident of the Golden Living Center in Mobridge on April 29, 2013 where she has resided until the time of her passing. She was very active in the activities there especially bingo and sing along. Millie was resident of the month in December 2015.
Grateful for sharing Millie's life are her children; Lyle (Judy Richey), Merle (Linda), and Darwin (Deb) all of Mobridge, Inez (Ben) Grismer of Aberdeen, Darlis (Charles) Smith of Foresthill, CA, Neal (Pam McLachlin) of Everett, WA, and Monica (Cliff Rubens) of Rocklin, CA; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband Fred on August 8, 2001, her parents, her brother Jacob, 9 half-brothers, and 6 half-sisters.
