Obituary

Funeral services for Milbert Jerke, 82 of Aberdeen will be Monday, Sept. 20, 10:30 AM, at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. Rev. Nathan Henschen and Rev. Hyle Anderson officiating. Burial at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation on Sunday from 2:00 until 5:00 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home. Mr. Jerke passed away September 15, 2010 at Bethesda Nursing Home in Aberdeen. Funeral arrangements are with Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge and Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home of Aberdeen.

Milbert Jerke was born on July 1, 1928 at Long Lake, South Dakota to John and Christinia (Scheuffele) Jerke. Milbert grew up in Long Lake, SD where he received his education. Following his education Milbert worked for his father's trucking business hauling local freight.

On January 17, 1951 he entered the US Army serving in Korea. He was honorably discharge on January 22, 1953. Following his discharge he settled in Aberdeen and on January 15, 1954 he married Martha Albrecht at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. Milbert & Martha made their home in Aberdeen where they have since resided. At the time of his death he was a resident at the Bethesda Nursing Home in Aberdeen. Milbert worked as a mechanic for Biegler Motors in Aberdeen for 42 years before his retirement in 1990.

Milbert enjoyed restoring old cars and taking them to parades. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a life member of the VFW and American Legion.

Milbert is survived by his wife Martha of Aberdeen, two sons; Jim (Shari) Sjerven of Grand Junction, CO., and Keith (Lynn) Jerke of Aberdeen, SD, one daughter; Susan Zacher of Pueblo, CO and one sister; Millie (Paul) Herzog of Tacoma, WA. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 grandsons, 2 sisters and 1 brother.

Casketbearers are Chris Jerke, David Jerke, Michael Sjerven, Jon Zacher, Michael Bonnet and Ron Wilson.
Honorary Bearers are All of Milbert's Friends.
