A procession will leave from the 4 mile junction at 4 PM Friday for an all night wake service at 6 PM at the auditorium. Micah passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2025, in Eagle Butte.
Micah Cetan Black Bear-Charger was born to Rufus Charger III and Linda Black Bear at the IHS Hospital in Eagle Butte. Unci Debra and Lala Delwin gave Micah his name at birth. From the moment Micah was born he was full of Love. Everyone that met him received a smile, a hug and a friendship. He didn't have a mean bone in his body as he made friends everywhere he went. He loved to go with his Lala Delwin to Sundance and listen to him sing at the Wacipi's. When he wasn't next to his Lala, you could find him in the middle of a crowd of kids laughing and just loving life. This is a quality that stayed with him throughout his life.
Micah was the baby of the family, and Nashiah, being his older sister, naturally took to him as if he were her own and called him her Baby Boy. They were inseparable and she did everything and anything she could for him even if he was naughty. He could do no wrong in her eyes and no one could tell her any different. She loved to run her fingers through his long hair and kiss him on the forehead. She made sure he said "I Love You" when he would leave and when he was out with friends, he made sure to always check in with her. Nashiah and Micah had a sibling bond that is too deep for us to even understand.
Micah's school years started at the CR Head Start and it was very clear from the beginning that he didn't go to school for the ABC's and 123's but to be with his friends and socialize! This mentality stuck with him all through his school years at Cheyenne Eagle Butte as he "LIKED" to learn but "LOVED" to be with his friends.
Micah had several friends in his life that became his family, two of those families were Noah LeClaire family and Rozllyn and Lennox Smith family. Just like Nashiah, Roz had a natural mothering nature and she looked out for Micah when he was around. Micah and Lennox built a close bond whether it was hanging out listening to music or just chilling and vibing. Micah and Noah were inseparable, if you were looking for Micah, you could always find him with Noah. People would often mistake them as brothers due to their matching long hair and style. If Micah were to have a twin, it was Noah.
In 2019 Micah became friends with MaKya, Micah, and Mya Veaux. He had told them that his name was Micah and MaKya didn't believe him so she would call him "Mickey" or "Mickey Mouse" until his mom told them his name was Micah. Then he was "little" Micah. He was such good friends with them that he would spend time at their home and even started calling their mom Raina, mom too. He just fit in and became part of the family and Raina became his guardian. He went to live with his Veaux-Slade family in Green Grass for some time and they would often go on nature walks, go to the river, and travel out of town. He was always so grateful for everything and every gift that he ever received so Jared and Raina loved to spoil him. After Covid, he moved back to Sioux Falls with his dad, however that didn't stop Micah from calling and letting them know how much he missed everyone and wanted to return home. He ended up getting his way and they moved back to Eagle Butte. He often checked in with the Veaux-Slade family and let them know of his accomplishments and that he was doing well. Micah was very loved by all the Veaux-Slade family. He was such a beautiful bright light who brought his smile everywhere he went. He appreciated being loved and welcomed into this family and they will forever have a void in their hearts for Micah.
Sports became an outlet for Micah during his 5th grade year. He went out for basketball and was a natural. Being a part of a team is what he thrived on. Micah was a proud C-EB Brave and known for his big smile, generous spirit and unwavering determination on and off the court and field. During the basketball season he pushed himself and became a shooting guard where he took on a leadership role. He so enjoyed the teamwork aspect that it led him to Football, where he excelled at the running back position. He had a true passion for sports and was a dedicated athlete which will be truly missed by his teammates and coaches.
Micah was a great kid, he always had a smile on his face, always worrying about other people as well as always having his friend's backs. He was never mean or ugly towards anyone, even if he didn't like you, he just wanted everyone to be happy. Micah's sudden death was a shock to everyone who knew him. He was healthy, happy, and had his whole life ahead of him. His death is a reminder that life is precious and can be taken from us at any time. So, the family asks you all to cherish the moments you have with your loved ones, and never take them for granted. "How lucky are we to have experienced a soul as beautiful as Micah's that makes saying goodbye so hard."
Micah Cetan was survived by his dad, Rufus Charger III, mom, Linda Black Bear, Sister, Nashiah Charger, Brothers, Kion Charger, Isaac Black Bear, Mahto Black Bear, Demetri Black Bear, Gabriel Iron Wing, Xavier DuBray, Grandmothers, Ann Charger and Debra Black Bear, and his only nephew Atticus Charger. Numerous Uncles, Aunties and cousins too numerous to mention.
Micah Cetan was preceded in death by his grandfather's, Rufus Charger Jr., Delwin Bowker and Martin Long Soldier, great grandmother Helen Hayes Black Bear, great grandfather Garnet "Buzzy" Black Bear and sister Rachel Iron Wing.
In Micah's 15 years here with us he was involved in so many people's lives, we did not want to forget anyone. Just know that Micah treasured every encounter and every friendship he made.
The family of Micah would like to thank everyone who donated and assisted in making Micah's final journey so beautiful, we couldn't have done it without all of you. The phone calls, messages and prayers has helped us find comfort during such a devastating time in our lives. A very special Thank You to the Garreau Family for the donations, even in your time of hurt you thought of another family's heart break and that is the epitome of friendship.
