Funeral services for Matilda "Tillie" Odde, age 89, of Pollock will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, June 25, 2012 at the Pollock Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Kvernes Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 5 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM Sunday at the church. Tillie passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the Selby Good Samaritan Center.

Matilda "Tillie" Odde was born November 28, 1922 to Gunder and Gena (Fjeldheim) Sjomeling on a farm south of Pollock where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Pollock High School in 1941 and attended Northern State Teachers College at Aberdeen, then taught country school.

On June 26, 1944, Tillie married Carl Odde at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. Carl and Tillie had four children. They lived southwest of Herreid, and in March of 1945 Carl was inducted into the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific Theatre. He was discharged in December of 1946, and they moved to a farm six miles southwest of Mound City. In 1949, they moved to a farm 13 miles southeast of Pollock. Carl passed away April 4, 1976. Following Carl's passing, Tillie continued to farm with her son Larry. She moved to Pollock in 1997 and in the fall of 2009 she moved into the assisted living center in Herreid. She most recently resided at the Good Samaritan Home in Selby.

She was a member of the Pollock Lutheran Church, Pollock American Legion Auxiliary, Friendly Neighbors Club and the Mound City Garden Club. Tillie was the leader of the Jolly Hustlers 4-H Club for many years. She taught Sunday School, held several offices of Pollock Lutheran Church Women and served as president of Pollock Lutheran Church. Tillie had a keen interest in history, especially Campbell County. Tillie enjoyed sharing her personal library of regional history with friends and family.

Tillie is survived by her children, Larry (Bea) Odde of Pollock, SD, Marilyn (Kenneth) Brockel of Java, SD, Kenneth (Arlene) Odde of Manhattan, KS and Robert Odde of Mound City, SD, seven grandchildren, Sarah Odde, Jason Brockel, Carl Odde, Brent Odde, John Odde, Brian Odde, Ross Odde, four great grandchildren, Hope Brockel, Haley Brockel, Carson Odde, and Aubry Odde, brother, Howard (Katherine) Sjomeling of Herreid, SD, sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Sjomeling of Mobridge, SD, Shirley (Don) Ochsner of Aberdeen, SD, Beverly Odde of Aberdeen, SD, and Emilie Odde of Minneapolis, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl, and two brothers, Erling Sjomeling and Glenn Sjomeling.
