Burial will be Wednesday at 1 PM MT at Black Hills National Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be at 5 PM Monday with a prayer service at 7 PM at the church. Mary suffered a stroke on Sunday, February 14, 2010 and passed away Friday, February 19, 2010 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Mary Elizabeth (Coyle) Long was born on Easter Sunday, April 16, 1922 on a farm six and one half miles northeast of Timber Lake in Corson County to Justus "Jay" and Iva (McGuire) Coyle. She lived in the country on the farm until she was fourteen and then moved into Timber Lake. Mary attended rural schools in Dewey and Corson Counties and graduated from Timber Lake High School in 1940. Mary also attended Notre Dame Jr. College in Mitchell where she received her teaching certificate. She taught in the rural South Glencross School until Thanksgiving 1943, when she started work in the ASC Office as a secretary-treasurer.

Vern "Pete" Long and Mary were married on Feb. 5, 1947 in Timber Lake. They made their home on Pete's ranch that he had bought from his grandfather, Barney Long. Their nine children were raised on the ranch. Pete passed away in May of 1993 and Mary continued to ranch. In 1999 she moved into the Timber Lake Manor where she has since resided. She was very family oriented and kept everyone informed on what the rest of the family was doing.

Mary was an active member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Timber Lake and a member of the Altar Society. She was also involved in the Nutrition Site Senior Citizens meals on wheels, the Timber Lake and Area Museum and Historical Society, the Jet Set Secretary and the American Legion Auxiliary Secretary. Mary enjoyed reading, traveling and contributing news for "Breezes from The Lake" in the Timber Lake Topic.

Mary was a thoughtful and caring person. She had many friends and was loved, not only by her family, but by all ages. She had concern for the children who were making their first Holy Communion to being a prayer sponsor for Confirmation and a Renew group leader. She was devoted to remembering them all in her daily prayers as was the same for her own Godchildren. Anyone could rely on her to pray with them during their time of need. Her hope and dream was to receive her crown in the glory of God and plant just one seed of faith to bring as many souls as she could with her to heaven.

Mary didn't seek acknowledgement for her accomplishments. She only hoped she would be remembered by her family as being unselfish and for her love of Jesus Christ.

Grateful for sharing in Mary's life are her children, Larry "Nub" Long of Whitehorse, (Marie Long of Eagle Butte), Helen "Gritz" (L.V.) Hubbard of Leakey, TX, Wanda "Jim" (Mick) Austin of Roosevelt, UT, Norma "Charlie" (Doc) Pesicka of Timber Lake, Miles "Bud" (Carol) Long of Timber Lake, Mavis "Babe" (Carl) Remmers of Cass Lake MN, Ethel "Hooley" (Bruce) Maher of Timber Lake, Arlis "Sweenie" (Gregg) Mowrer of Promise, and Roger "Chip" (Rita) Long of Timber Lake; 34 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; brother, David Coyle of Fairfield, CA (Linda Coyle of Marrieta, CA); sisters, Monica (Al) Welk of Sioux Falls, Lois Holzer of Timber Lake, Geraldine Holzer of Timber Lake, Rita (Richard) Christie of Escondido, CA, Lavonne Daniels of Fairfield, CA, and Kathleen Keller of Sioux Falls; two sister-in-laws, Florence Coyle and Methal Majorowicz, one brother in law Burdette Thompson and 23 first cousins.
