Funeral services for Marvin Henry Houston, Sr. age 95 of Eagle Butte will be 11:00 Am Friday, February 14, 2014 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte. Burial will be in the Mossman Cemetery, under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Family and friends are asked to meet at 4 mile junction at 4:30 PM visitation will be Thursday, February 13, 2014 6PM for family and friends with a prayer service at 7PM at the church. Marvin passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Mobridge.
Marvin Henry Houston Sr. entered the Spirit world on February 8th 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Mobridge, SD. Marvin H. Houston was born in Dewey County on August 8th, 1918, to Susan Traversie and Jess Houston. Marvin was one of eight children; Dominic, Richard, Bill, Buddy, Stella, Henrietta, and Inez. Marvin lived in this area most of his life and attended St. Joe's in Chamberlain, SD, and Timber Lake High School.
Marvin was married to Wanda Arpan, from this union, two children were born, Bernard (Bernie) and Gwen Houston. In 1950 he met and married Zenobia M. Pearman. Of this union two children and two step children were united. Nina Jean, Marvin Henry, Charlie Anne and Sammie.
Marvin worked in various jobs in the area, Diamond A Ranch, The Pearman Ranch, Housing Authority, CRST Telephone Authority, Ganje's Hardware.
Marvin was a excellent maintenance man and could fix just about anything.
He later moved to Burnsville, MN. He also loved wood working and made items such as doll cradles, potty chairs, end tables and numerous other items. He had a crafters booth in a Crafter's Store while living in Minnesota. He returned to South Dakota (God's Country, as he stated) in the last four years.
Marvin was a WWII vet, and served in the Army for four years. After receiving a Honorable Discharge he returned home to South Dakota.
Marvin, loved all sports but, was especially fond of baseball, (the Atlanta Braves). He loved watching sports with his family. He loved hunting and fishing with anybody that was willing to go along. But more than anything he loved his family. He loved to tease and joke with anybody who would stick around long enough to listen. He will be missed by all.
He is survived by his children: Marvin Henry Houston, Jr. (Pam), Nina J. Houston-Fiddler (Joey), Charlie Anne Frost (Fritz), Sammie Dupris (Sam), and Gwen Houston, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, wife Zenobia Pearman-Houston all of his siblings, and one son; Bernie.
