Marvin LeRoy Schlomer died May 17, 2018, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Marvin was born September 23, 1951, to Gerhard and Agnes (Hanson) Schlomer in Rapid City, South Dakota, and was baptized at St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rapid City.

He spent his early childhood in the Glenham and Herreid areas until his parents began building their farm by Blue Blanket Bay. Marv graduated from Glenham High School in 1969, and then enrolled at South Dakota State University where he met his bride-to-be the first night of college at the WELS Lutheran Collegian Center. Their first official date was in March 1970, and two weeks later they decided they would marry someday. That day happened July 18, 1971, in New Ulm, MN. To this union were born 5 children: Shannon (Lynette Borah) Schlomer of Glenham, Brandei (BJ) Schaefbauer of Aberdeen, Robin (Christopher) Zimmer of Tembagapura, Indonesia, Ryan (Kathryn Bare) Schlomer of Cape Coral, Florida, and Quintin (Raquel Haefner) Schlomer of Glenham. Marvin and Carol were blessed with 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

After graduating from South Dakota State University, he returned to the Glenham area to farm with his dad except for spending a few months with the US Army. He farmed with his parents until they sold the farm. By then Marv's family had moved to Mobridge, and he began working at Key Insurance. In the late 80's he helped buy back the farm and again he began farming, which was his favorite occupation until he came up with the idea doing commercial hunting. One thing led to another and soon Missouri River Ringnecks was founded. After giving hundreds of geography lessons at sports shows explaining the Missouri River does run through South Dakota, he changed the name to Pheasant Cove Outfitters. His hunters became his children, and he loved every hunter that ever graced the Pheasant Cove and hunted with him over the past 30 years.

Marvin loved farming and hunting, but most of all he loved giving advice to farmers and hunting clients. After purchasing the former Glenham Equity, he named it FARMS which stands for Farmers Agricultural Resource Services. (Marvin was the Resource.) He would give advice and information to any farmer even if the farmer wasn't his client. No-till farming was his baby, and he was one of the first, if not the first farmer, to use no-till farming practices in Walworth County. He also had his famous sayings that we shall miss.

Marvin was a life time member of St. Jacobi Lutheran Church in Glenham where he served as Elder. Supporting Mission work for Christ was one of his major endeavors in life, and he served on the Dakota Montana District Board for Home Missions. He served as Chairman of Dakota Lakes Research Farm, he served on the Mobridge City Council and Mobridge Chamber of Commerce, and he served as the President and Vice President of South Dakota Young Agents.

Even in his final hours he thought of others. He made sure, with the help of a nurse, he could give one last birthday bouquet of flowers to his wife on the day he died.

He is survived by his wife Carol (Kretsinger), his children, seventeen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, his mother Agnes Schlomer, his sister Marilyn (Ralph) Randall, his brothers Marco (Susan) Schlomer, Marlo (Jelayne) Schlomer, Marlin (Peggy) Schlomer, and Marion (Corrine) Schlomer, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his father Gerhard Schlomer and Baby Zimmer.

Our tears will be shed, because we miss Marv, but then during these times of sadness, please think of happy or funny times with Marv and where he is today. Marv will be missed by many people throughout the world, but the joy of life eternal with his Savior is his now and forever. Therefore, be glad and sing Jesus' praises. Believe in Jesus Christ the Savior, the eternal Son of God, and one day you shall see Marv again in the glories that await you in heaven with our Lord and Savior.

Therefore, he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf. Hebrews 7:24-25.

Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault.

All glory to him alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All glory, majesty, power and the authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time. Amen. Jude 24-25.

This is what Marv would want for you.
