Funeral arrangements for Marvelyn "Susie" Leff, age 67, of Mobridge will be Saturday, July 31 at 11 AM at the UCC Church in Mobridge. Visitation will be Friday from 12-5 at the funeral home with a prayer service starting at 7. Burial of cremains will be at a later date under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. Marvelyn passed away July 27, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Center in Selby.
Marvelyn "Susie" Frerking was born March 28, 1943 in Lemmon, SD, to Roy and Beulah (Plocek) Frerking. She grew up on a farm near Lemmon with her three brothers, Bob, Vernon, and Melvin. She attended country school in Perkins County before graduating from Lemmon High School in 1961. She then attended Stewart's School of Hair Design in Aberdeen, SD. She worked in beauty shops in Dewey County following graduation; she eventually worked in several shops in Mobridge, including one in her home.
Susie married Donald Leff of Mobridge on December 2, 1967. They were the last couple to be married in the old United Congregational Church. They made their home in Mobridge and had two children, Jared and Jami.
Susie developed younger- onset Alzheimer's Disease in her late 50's. After a heroic battle, she died peacefully at the Good Samaritan Center in Selby, SD, on July 27, 2010 at the age of 67.
Susie was a member of the United Congregational Church in Mobridge for 43 years and was an active member of the Women's Fellowship. She loved to ready, sew, cook, collect recipes, and spend time with family and friends. She was a wonderful and devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by her husband Donald Leff of Mobridge; a son, Jared Leff of Mobridge; a daughter, Dr. Jami (Leff) Reister, MD, of Northfield, MN; a son-in-law, Dr. Randy Reister, MD, of Northfield, MN; her three grandchildren, Benjamin, Jacob, and Annika Reister of Northfield; her brothers Robert Frerking of Lemmon, SD, Vernon Frerking and his wife Candy of Cle Elum, WA; and Melvin Frerking and his wife Bonnie of Norcross, GA.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's Association as the Susie Leff Tribute Fund in order to further fund research and support those families and individuals affected by Alzheimer's Disease. Her tribute can be found at:
