Obituary

Memorial Service for Martina Jo Brave Bull, 35, of Bismarck, will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 31, 2025, at the St. James Episcopal Church in Cannonball. Martina passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Sandford Medical Center in Bismarck.

Martina Jo Brave Bull was born on October 1, 1989, to George Brave Bull, Sr. and Johnelle White Eagle at Medcenter One in Bismarck, North Dakota. She passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, surrounded by family.

As a child, Martina spent the first few years of her life in Cannonball, ND and she attended Cannonball Elementary School. In 1995 the family moved to Solen, ND where she attended Solen High School. She also participated in the Job Corps in Minot, ND. Martina was never the adventurous type, never really cared to see the world near or far, her world was her family and friends. She was perfectly happy spending time with her younger siblings, taking them to the park, taking them fishing, taking them on walks, or sitting around the kitchen table playing games. She also loved playing pool with her dad and brothers. When Martina was a young girl, she loved attending pow wows with her family, and she would dance alongside her siblings. As she got older, she no longer danced herself, but she spent time getting the siblings dressed and braiding their hair. When her siblings began having children, Martina adored each and every niece and nephew and she loved spending time with them, especially the youngest nephew, August.

As an adult, Martina was skilled in a variety of areas, and she was not afraid to put those skills to use. She would try anything and do anything, especially if it meant helping someone. Her heart of gold and compassionate spirit compelled her to try and help anyone in need. If there was a task that needed to be done and no one wanted to do it, Martina would jump right in and do her best to complete the task.

Martina lived each day to its fullest. She found joy in the simple things, and she was always smiling and happy. She loved having fun and she loved visiting and checking in on others. She especially loved checking on and taking care of "grandpa" (Oscar Follows the Road). Together they did a lot of work around the house and took many a car ride to "get business done."

On January 11, 2023, Martina married her one and only, Nathan Shelltrack, at the Sioux County courthouse. Nathan and Martina made their home in Bismarck, ND, and it was here that they spent time together doing some of their favorite things. They loved eating out, listening to music, watching movies, putting together puzzles and going for drives to visit family.

Martina was truly loved, and she will be dearly missed by her family. She leaves behind her husband Nathan, her mother Johnelle, her brothers Alan (Margaret) Siegfried, George Jr. and Bo Brave Bull, Robert White Eagle, adopted brother Louis Decoteau, Jr., her sisters Sharon, Valerie and Geena Brave Bull, her nephews, Justin and Vaughan Brave Bull, Rias Red Tomahawk, Chayton Jeanotte, and August Plenty Chief, her nieces Mandy and Clara Brave Bull, La'Riah Jeanotte, Aiyanna Brave Bull, and Raissa White Eagle. She is preceded in death by her father, George Brave Bull, Sr.

A special thank you to all the medical staff that have cared for Martina and to the family and friends who visited her in the hospital. While we would like to acknowledge every single person that was special to Martina, we could never name them all, but we remember the countless friends and family who loved her. Her memory will live on through the lives of those she touched.

Honorary Pallbearer's: John and Kelcie Brave Bull, Oscar Follows the Road, Darice, Anpetu and Norma Buck Elk, Todd Hauck, Greta Baker, Wanda Dalton, Letha Lewis, Patricia Carry Moccasin, and Madonna Red Bear.
