Obituary

Funeral services for Martha E. Walker, age 85, of McLaughlin will be at 10 AM MT, Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at the UCC Church in McLaughlin. Burial will be in the McLaughlin Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. There will be visitation from 2-4 PM CT Monday at the funeral home. Visitation will also start at 5 PM MT, Monday with a prayer service at 7 PM MT at the church. Martha passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Mobridge.

Martha E Metzger was born on April 23, 1928 in Corson County to George G and Martha (Moser) Metzger. Martha married Reinhold R. Walker in 1945 and to this union five children were born, Roger R., Carol, Ronald R., Royce R., and Robert. Martha was a great cook. The table was always open to anyone hungry at her house, there was always someone showing up for a meal whether it would be friends, family or a salesman. Lunch was always ready. Martha was also known for her knoepfle soup, which won her first place in the 1995 Corson County knoepfle soup cook-off.

Martha was a big help on the farm, helping Reinhold with the milking and other farm chores. She liked to garden and canned what she raised. She also loved her farm cats and chickens.

Martha is survived by her children, Roger Walker of Selby, Carol Walker of Belgrade, MT, Ronald (LaVonne) Walker of McLaughlin, and Royce (Cari) Walker of McLaughlin, eight grandchildren, Travis Syvrud of Belgrade, MT, Ryan (Jessica) Walker of Gillette, WY, Nathaniel Walker of McLaughlin, Benjamin (Shelly) Walker of Bismarck, Brittni (Matt) Dobowey of Max, ND, Rason (Annie) Walker of Mobridge, Robin (Allen) Rau of Java, Shelli (Jason) Kahler of Rapid City, twelve great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, one sister, Alvina Walker of Rapid City.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Reinhold R. Walker, son, Robert, granddaughter, Charity Jo, four brothers and four sisters.
