Due to Corona Virus precautions, Mass of Christian Burial for Marietta "Toots" Brooks, 79, of Pollock will now be limited to immediate family and close relatives only. The lunch that was to follow, has also been cancelled. We regret any inconvenience this may cause . The service will still take place at 10:30 AM, Thursday, March 19, 2020, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Herreid. Burial will be at the church cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 6 PM with a liturgical wake service at 7 PM Wednesday at the church.

Marietta "Toots" Brooks passed away at her home in Pollock, SD on Friday March 13, 2020. The cause was cancer, which was diagnosed in November of 2019.

Toots was born on October 21, 1940 at home in Strasburg, ND to Andrew and Rose (Mitzel) Reis. She attended school at St. Benedicts Public School and graduated in 1958. She married Gerry Brooks on February 24, 1961 and they farmed northwest of Pollock, SD. They continued to farm but moved to Pollock in March of 1968. Toots started working as a teacher's aide in the first and second grade room at the Pollock School from 1985 until she retired in 2007.

Toots was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Herreid, SD. She was very devoted to her church. She was a Eucharistic Minister, lector, Alter Society member and helped with the church records.

Some of Toots' favorite pastimes were playing pinochle with friends, reading, gardening, and cooking which her family enjoyed immensely. Toots was an incredibly loving mother and grandmother. Her grand children have loving memories of her playing games and cards, reading to them, and attending their many events.

Grateful to have shared in her life are her children: Scott Brooks of Pollock; Pat Brooks of Bismarck, ND; Robbie (Louise) Brooks of Dakota Dunes, SD; and Susan (Jack) Volk of Herreid. Toots had six grandchildren: Joe (Kate) Volk, Ben (Jordyn) Volk, Hailey Brooks, Hannah Brooks, Deidra Brooks, and Karlee (Spenser) Meredith and 6 great grandchildren. She had two brothers; Andy (Ramona) Reis of Strasburg, ND; Les (Judy) Reis of Otsego, MN; brothers-in-law: Tim Moriarity and Larry (Sharon) Brooks. Toots also had four special children she babysat – Gracie, Harmony, Hope and JW Eberhart.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerry; parents, Andrew and Rose; grandparents; brother, Nick Reis and sister Patty Moriarity.
