Margie died on February 6, 2026, at the Walworth County Care Center in Selby.

Margie (Hoefs) Knecht was born February 16,1921, in Selby, SD, to Roy and Elsie (Zabel) Hoefs. She was raised in Selby and attended school there. In 1938 she married Eddie Knecht. They were blessed with one child, Jalayne. As a family they resided in Selby until 1958; at that time Eddie and Margie moved to her Aunt May (Hoefs) Magers farm, farming there until 1989 when they moved back to Selby. They enjoyed retirement together and in 2004 Margie was faced with a new challenge of life without Eddie. She rose to that challenge and lived in her house by herself until 2018. During that time, she enjoyed playing cards and socializing at the Selby Senior Center. She also liked cruising town in a golf cart after she was no longer comfortable driving her car. In the fall of 2018, Margie made the decision to move to the Walworth County Care Center where she lived out her life with the care and love of her family and the WCCC staff. She was almost 105, but the Lord called her home just 10 days before her birthday.

Over the years Margie worked in the County Agent's Office, County Treasurer Office, Selective Service Office and was Eddie's "right hand man". Margie was on the Selby Cemetery Board for years and was proud to be part of the Praying Hands Bible construction. She was a member of the Merry Dozen Extension Club and enjoyed time spent with friends. She was a past member of the Selby Methodist Church and current member of St. John Lutheran in Selby.

She is survived by her daughter, Jalayne (Knecht) Opheim. Grandchildren: Teri (Wes) Moser, Tom (Dixie) Opheim. Great-grandchildren: Whitney (Devon) Alexander, Trevor (Jennifer) Moser, Tosha (Brant) Shores, Lexi (Jesse) Vega, Cade (Maria) Opheim. Great-great-grandchildren: Adri, Marlee and Will Alexander, Torence and Emeryk Moser, Mesa and Boden Shores, Tawnee and Ryann Opheim.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Eddie, her son-in-law Elwyn, her sisters Mildred and Gertrude, and her parents.
