Magdalena (Marge) Weisbeck, 101, died Sunday, May 13 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 19 at 10:00 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Herreid, SD, with Father Tom Clement officiating. There will be prayer service on Friday evening at 7:30 at the church. Marge will be laid to rest in St. Michael's Catholic cemetery in Herreid.
Magdalena Hilt was born March 2, 1917 to Martina (Sitter) and John Hilt, the 2 nd of 11 children. She attended grade school until the 6 th grade at country school near Hull, ND. Marge grew up helping on the family farm, leaving at the age of 15, spending about 3 years in Fargo and Minneapolis. She worked in private homes as a housekeeper and nanny.
She married Stephen Weisbeck on November 14, 1939. She worked beside Steve and raised their family of 10 on their farm near Herreid until they retired. They moved into Herreid in 1976.
Marge was active in the church, civic club and the senior center. She loved to crochet, especially afghans for her family, and work in ceramics and she was a very good pinocle player. Cards with their friends was a favorite pastime.
Her children were her legacy. She loved them dearly, always looking forward to visits from her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They always had hugs for their Grandma. She was an inspiration to all of her family, encouraging them all to get the education she did not have.
After Steve passed away in 1989, Marge continued to live in her home in Herreid. When she was 98, she moved to Aberdeen, to an assisted living home near her daughter.
Marge is survived by her 10 children, David (Bonnie), Stevensville, MT, Jerome (Tillie) Rapid City, SD, Pauline, San Diego, CA, Carol (Keith),Aberdeen, SD, James (Peg), Rapid City, SD, Norbert (Anna) Tucson, AZ, Norma, San Diego, CA, Karen, Chesapeake, VA, Brenda (Keith) Hermosa, SD, and Ernie (Deb) Herreid, SD, 24 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband and 10 brothers and sisters.
Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
