Obituary

Funeral services for Lyla J. Berreth of Selby age 80 will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Selby UCC Church. Burial will be in the Mound City Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A prayer service will be held on Monday at 7:00 pm at the Church. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7:00 PM at the Church. Lyla passed away, Friday, December 19, 2014 at Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Lyla Jane (Salzer) Berreth was born to the loving parents of Minnie (Deibert) and William Salzer on June 15, 1934, in Campbell Co, SD. She attended Gale & Monthye rural elementary school, graduating from Herreid High School in 1952. She then taught four years of elementary school in North and South Dakota.

Lyla married the love of her life Eugene Berreth on April 1, 1956. She was a stay at home mom until their daughters were school age, then she worked at the G.S.C. in Selby for five years, after that she worked at the Mound City school for fifteen years as secretary and substitute teacher. She loved children but the school closed and once again was asked to work as certified medication aide at the Herreid G.S.C. and once again spread her love with the residents there for ten years.

She also taught Sunday School, Bible school and enjoyed Women's fellowship. She served as a volunteer at the G.S.C. and enjoyed attending daily lunch at the Nutrition site and pot lucks.

Her family was so very dear to her and thanked God that she was able to watch her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up always living close to them.

Lyla attended and was a member of the Selby UCC Church.

Lyla is survived by a very loving family; Renae (Jerry) Stoick, Selby, Jodie Lemke (Dennis Schneider) of Rapid City, Steph and Jim Kihne, Selby, Alvis Lemke, Selby, grandchildren; Ashley Stoick , Raleigh, N.C., Jamie Lemke, Pierre, Chelsey Stoick , Bismarck, ND and Christopher Stoick, Elpaso, TX also surviving; great grand-sons; Truitt Stroh, Thatcher and Malone Kihne, Selby, one brother Wilbert Salzer, Casper, WY.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister; Irma, her husband Eugene, one infant son; Wade Jay Berreth, great grandson; Kingston Stoick and one brother Milton.
