Obituary
Funeral services for Lydia Rueb, 84, of Herreid will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, December 13, 2017, Herreid Assembly of God Church. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 5 PM Tuesday with a prayer service at 7 PM at the church. Lydia passed away Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Selby Good Samaritan Center.
Lydia M. Rueb was born on November 8, 1933 in Pollock to Gottlieb and Christine (Moser) Kerher. She grew up in Pollock and graduated from Pollock High School in 1951. After high school Lydia received a teaching degree from Northern Teachers College and taught at Schaefbauer Country School.
On May 7, 1953 Lydia married Delbert Rueb in Herreid while he was on leave from the service. Following their marriage, they made their home in Mineral Wells, TX, where Delbert was stationed. In 1954 they moved to the Rueb family farm near Herreid. While on the farm Lydia raised her family, took care of her big garden, and many years helped Delbert on custom harvesting runs. She also worked as a cook at The Wheel in Mobridge and the Herreid Nutrition Site. In July of 2015 Lydia and Delbert moved into Herreid where they have since resided.
Lydia was a member of the Assembly of God Church where she was involved in the Women's Ministries and taught Sunday School. She enjoyed reading, writing poetry and was a great baker.
Lydia is survived by her husband of 64 years, Delbert Rueb of Herreid, children, Dean (Norma) Rueb of Buffalo, WY, Dale (Colleen) Rueb of Herreid, Mary (Dwayne) Goodale of Watervliet, MI, Rollin (Charlotte) Rueb of Herreid and Paul (Bonnie) Rueb of Selby, ten grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, three sisters, Edna Maxiner of Cairo, NE, Martha Kerher of Bridgewater, SD and Donna Streifel of Bloomington, MN, one sister-in-law, Arlene Kerher of Aberdeen.
She is preceded in death by her parents, step father, Wesley Ryckman, infant daughter, Patricia, in 1954, son, Randy in 2012, brothers, Irwin and Jake and brothers-in-law Frank Maxiner and Tom Streifel, father-in-law and mother-in-law Carl and Lydia Rueb, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Maureen and Leroy Johnson.
