Obituary

Funeral services for Lydia Gehring, age 89, of McIntosh, will be at 2 PM MT, on Friday, January 29, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in McIntosh. Burial will be in the McIntosh Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. Visitation will start at noon CT on Thursday with a prayer service at 6 PM CT at the funeral home. Lydia passed away Thursday, January 21, 2010 at the Linton Hospital in Linton, ND.

Lydia (Moser) Gehring was born May 17, 1920 to William and Justina (Schweigert) Moser in the Anethal Community, which is 12 miles south of Watauga, SD. She was baptized in 1938 in the Baptist Church. Lydia attended Hanson Country School south of McIntosh. She helped on the farm, worked for Axtel's Ranch, and cooked for the hired help. From there she met her husband John Gehring who was a sheep herder. Lydia came down with "TB" and was sent to Santor, SD to recoup for one whole year.



She and John married in McIntosh in 1940. They moved to Colorado, where they were employed by a farmer. Their first daughter was born and they moved to Washington State, from there they began their cannery employment. Shortly after living in Washington State they moved back to South Dakota, where they rented a ranch south of McIntosh (DeVelde Ranch). They bought the McGee Ranch southeast of McIntosh in 1945. For 56 years Lydia helped John on the farm and in the Cabinet making business.



In her retirement years, Lydia was active in church, ladies aid, and teaching Sunday school. She also liked crocheting in her spare time,

gardening, flowers, making dumplings, bread, and love knots, spending time with her family and friends. Lydia moved into the nursing home in November 2004, after a car accident.



Lydia is survived by children Charlotte (Don) Moser of McLaughlin, Joyce (David) Frazier of Woodbury, TN, Dennis of McIntosh, Donna (Don) Mott of Morgan Hill, CA, Curtis (Annette) of McIntosh, and Dwight "Fritz" (Rita) of Tioga, ND, two brothers Milbert (Darlene) Moser of Rupert, ID, Edwin Moser of Woodburn, OR, five sisters Helen Schulz of Mobridge, Irene (Johnny) Heinrich of Elk Grove, CA, Violet Bronson of Sioux Falls, Clara Stoecker of Mobridge, and Shirley (Loven) Stoecker, nineteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.



She is preceded in death by parents William and Justina, husband John, sisters Edna Scholl and Mildred Smith, one great grandchild, brothers-in-law Rudy Schulz, Edwin Scholl, Gene Bronson, and Lloyd Smith.



Casketbearers are Douglas Moser, Chad Moser, John David Frazier, Charles Frazier, Craig Gehring, Tim Gehring, Jonah Gehring, Matt Gehring, Shane Gehring, Kris Mott, Nick Mott, Casey Mott, Joel Moser, and Jacob Baumeister.



Honorary Casketbearers are Doctor Ron Wagner, Doctor Mark Monasky, Marvin Bertsch, Rev. Richard Mayforth, Pastor David Ling, and All Staff at the Good Samaritan of Selby.

Organist will be Corrine Arnold.
