Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. LuVern passed away Thursday, August 13, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Mobridge.
LuVern Jacob Quaschnik was born on January 17, 1924 to Jacob and Margaret (Bischke) Quaschnik in Herreid, SD. He attended grade school in Herreid and graduated from Herreid High School in 1942. LuVern was an outstanding trombone player in the band and loved to sing in the choir.
At the age of 21, LuVern married the love of his life, Darlene Bauer, on December 23, 1945 in Zeeland, ND. For the next 69 years they made their home in Mobridge, SD. LuVern worked for a lumber company and then for the MDU plant for 30 years before retiring in 1986.
LuVern was an avid golfer and card player, and he and Darlene spent many years enjoying these hobbies with their friends in Mobridge. He also took great pride in his yard and flowers and every blade of grass was just so.
Singing was another passion of LuVern's and everyone who knew him knew he had a beautiful tenor voice. He used this God-given talent by singing in the church choir and in a quartet for many years. He was a lifelong member of the Baptist church.
Far and above LuVern's greatest love though was his love for his Savior. Hours and years were spent reading his Bible to himself and out loud to Darlene. His worn Bible on his end table is a testament to that. He was a quiet and kind-hearted man and his faith was always apparent in his life.
In their retirement years, LuVern and Darlene spent over 20 years calling Casa Grande, AZ their winter time home. While there they continued their golfing and card playing hobbies with their friends from Mobridge.
Left to mourn his passing and keeping him in her fondest memory is his wife of 69 years, Darlene Quaschnik of Mobridge. Also surviving him is his sister, Aleta Hieb, of Trenton, MO; his brother-in-law James Bauer of Mobridge; 2 sisters-in-law Lila Wockenfuss of Aberdeen, SD and Alice Wolff of Stockton, CA as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Jacob and Margaret Quaschnik.
