Louis (Shorty) Leroy Bader was called to heaven to join his parents, Albert and Marie and siblings; Irvin, Arthur, Herbert, Raymond, Ruth and Darline on Wednesday, March 30, 2016. Shorty was born on November 5, 1934 and raised on the ranch north of Timber Lake.
In 1953, Shorty graduated from Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville Georgia. He married Martha Schweitzer on June 2, 1955 and they lived in the Timber Lake area where they raised their six children until they parted ways. Shorty eventually moved to Mobridge and resided there until going home.
During his lifetime, Shorty wore many hats including farmer, rancher, car salesman, and feed salesman. Shorty with his father and brothers owned and managed Timber Lake Livestock Market but his passion was buying feeder and butcher cattle. In addition, he managed Bader Trucking from 1988 to 2011.
As a member of the Timber Lake Rodeo Association, Shorty volunteered in various roles and activities during the Days of 1910. Shorty enjoyed an annual pit barbeque with his brother-in-law, Dean Schweitzer. More recently, Shorty enjoyed fishing the Moreau and Saturday evening get-together at the Moose with his friends.
Shorty is survived by his special companion, Sharon Olsen and her children, Dan and Sandy Hensch, Julie Olsen and Greg Olsen. Shorty will be remembered with love by his brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Kay Bader and sister, Betty Bader. Shorty is cherished in memory by his children: Janette and Jeff Barr and their children, Jami, Jeremiah and Jordan; Francine and Leon Elkins and their children, Heather, Leon and Maci; Eugene and Denise Bader and their children, Ryan, Amber and Chase; Juanitta and Scott Clem and their daughters, Willow and Ivey; Lowell and Patty Bader and their children, Chester, Sandra and Martha; and Boyce Bader and his sons, Kevin, Kerry, and Thayne; and his great grandchildren: Caleb and Kalvin Byrne, Ronan and Emmett Barr, Weston and Colbie McFarland, Kaeson Elkins, Mason Sheldon, Lynzi Mendez and Joey Jae Bader. Many caring nieces, nephews and friends will share his memory.
Due to Shorty's deep Catholic faith, his family believes he would appreciate a donation to his home parish of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, in lieu of flowers.
