Mass of Christian Burial for Loretta Silk, 77, of Bismarck and formerly of Kenel will be at 10:30 AM, CT, Friday, October 7, 2016 at the Catholic Church of Assumption in Kenel. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be at 6 PM Thursday with a prayer service at 7 PM at the funeral home. Loretta passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at St. Vincent's Care Center in Bismarck.
Loretta Mae Silk was born on December 18, 1938, in Kenel, SD, to Stephen and Marcella (Crow Feather) Silk. She attended Flandreau Indian School and graduated in 1957. While there she met her first husband, Sylvester Boyer. To this union three children were born, Chris, Jeff and Danielle. She attended North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND, to be a dental assistant. Loretta and Sylvester made their home in California before Loretta returned to the Standing Rock area. While back home she met Philip Halsey. To this union one son was born, Chance. Loretta married Richard Twete and they remained close friends until the time of her passing.
Due to her health decline, Loretta moved to Bismarck and eventually under the care of St. Vincent's Care Center. She enjoyed reading, watching classic movies and was an avid 49ers fan. One of her highlights in life was seeing Elvis in Las Vegas.
Loretta is survived by her children, Chris (Janice) Boyer of Las Vegas, NV, Jeff (Elsie) Boyer of Flagstaff, AZ, Danielle (Ardeen) Muller of Mandan, ND, Chance (Shelley) Halsey of Mobridge, 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and a sister, Ethel Silk of Bismarck.
She is preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Brianna, husband, Sylvester, sister, Pauline.
