Mass of Christian Burial for Lois (Brandner) Seiler, 91, of Herreid will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, July 6, 2020 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Herreid. Burial will be at the church cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be at 6 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM Sunday at the church. Lois passed away Thursday, July 2, 2020, at the Linton Hospital. Services on Monday will be livestreamed on the Kesling Funeral Home Facebook page.
Lois Marie (Brandner) Seiler was born on August 18, 1928, to Joseph and Mary (Heid) Brandner at Herreid, SD. She grew up and attended country school followed by Herreid High School, graduating in 1946. After graduation she attended Northern State College in Aberdeen. After college she started teaching country school.
On January 18, 1949 Lois married Donald Seiler in Herreid. Five children were born to this union. Lois was active in St. Michael's Parish and was a member of the Altar Society. She belonged to a Rosary Club that made thousands of rosaries and sent them all over the world. She worked at the Herreid Sale Barn for thirteen years before starting at the Herreid school where she worked for twenty-nine years as an Educational Assistant.
Lois enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, listening to old time music, visiting with family and friends, cooking German dishes with her specialty being knadel soup. While living on the farm she raised chickens, had a large garden and did a lot of canning. She always remained close with her sisters and family and loved going to several Brandner reunions that were held in various states. Her vacations were spent going to see her children and grandchildren.
Lois is survived by her daughter, Julie (Tom) Trigg of Sturgis, son, Sherman Seiler of Aberdeen, son-in-law, Randy Ritter of Mound City, daughter-in-law, Vicky Erdmann of Minneapolis, grandchildren, Will (Jill) Seiler, Stephanie Lex, Marie (Ben) Lentz, Jason (Sara) Heisler, Jesse (Shelly) Heisler, Lonna Heisler, and Brent Schmidt, great grandchildren, Emma, Alex, and Margaret Seiler, Katie and Addison Lex, Everett and Micah Lentz, Ben, Noah, Levi, Annie and Emma Heisler, step grandchildren, brothers and sisters, Genevieve Kightlinger of Deadwood, Clem (Angie) Brandner of Bismarck, Florence Wittmeier of Herreid and Walter (Mary Ann) Brandner of Dell Rapids.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents, sons, William James in 1964 and Gary Joseph in 2011, daughter, Debra Ritter in 2017, brother, Bert Brandner, and sister, Betty Senftner.
