Linda Blessed Many with a Smile, Life of Faith
Linda LaMont died with her family by her side after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. She was born the third of four daughters on March 4, 1949, to Edward and Frankie Pauline Fiala. After growing up in the Mitchell area, she attended Northern State College where she received her teaching degree; upon graduation, she taught in Granite Falls, Minnesota, before moving to Mobridge. On June 19, 1971, she married Merlyn
LaMont, and the two soon made their home near Glenham, where they ranched and raised their two daughters and son. It was on the ranch where she treasured spending time with her family, landscaping, decorating her home, and refinishing antique furniture. Linda was a member of the United Congregational United Church of Christ. A lifetime dedicated to her family and forty-one years dedicated to students, to the teaching
profession, and to the Mobridge School District provided ample teaching opportunities, which Linda did not take lightly. Blessed with a gift for teaching, Linda shared more than academic lessons. Her students, often referred to as "my kids," learned valuable life lessons, including rising to meet challenges and the importance of a smile and a positive attitude. Linda's life was a testament to her openly-shared faith and optimism. Through her involvement in education, 4-H leadership, and church camps, she positively impacted the lives of many youth.
Throughout Linda's life, she blessed her family by inspiring them as a Christian wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and educator. She is survived by her husband Merlyn; daughter Ann LaMont of Glenham; daughter Jaimie (Jesse) Hubner, children Josey, Jentry, and Judd of Glenham; son Colin (Whitney) LaMont, daughter Landree of Lodgepole. Counted a special blessing, Linda treasured her time with her grandchildren. Also blessed to have shared Linda's life are her sisters Sandra (Duane) Schulz of Fulton, SD; Bette (William) Haywood of Britton, SD; Barbara (Fred) Richardson of Yorktown, VA, and many beloved family members and friends. In death, Linda leaves her earthly life behind to join her Heavenly Father and her parents. Her family and friends will keep her with them by retelling countless memories which will surely bring joy and smiles.
Linda's cremains will be returned to the ranch land she loved.
