Funeral services for Lillian White Temple, 76, of Bullhead, SD, will be at 11 AM, CT, Monday, August 31, 2015, at the Bullhead School Gym. Burial will be at the White Temple Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. An all-night wake service will start at 7 PM at the gym Sunday. Lillian passed away at the Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls.
Lillian was born October 17, 1938 in Fort Yates, ND. She is the daughter of Sam Goodiron and Rose Renville Goodiron. She was the youngest of seven children. She had 4 brothers. Walter, Carl, Percy, Wayne and 2 sisters - Magdalene and Maxine. She attended and graduated from the Fort Yates Public School.
She married Emmett White Temple in 1960 and they had seven children, Rosa from Blaine, MN, Emmett Jr. (wife Cheryl) from Rock Creek. Tyrone Sam (wife Patricia) from Lewiston ID. Mary (husband Tim Stead Sr.). Loren (Janice Ramey) from Rock Creek, Althea from Fort Yates and Melissa (Jayson Garter) from Fort Yates.
Grand children Nikki, Dominique, Dina and Brannon Cavanaugh, Katie and Michael White Temple, Skyler, Samantha, Ethan, and Maxine White Temple, Jennifer White Temple, Waniyatu White Temple, Sabeion, Jaydon, Payton, Solomon, Talon, Mya Garter.
She attended Haskell, Aberdeen Presentation College. She received her Bachelors' degree in Teaching from the University of North Dakota. She also attended the University of California Berkley while she worked on a Master's Degree.
Throughout her working career she worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs for over 20 years. She served one term as a council member for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. She served as a member on the Sitting Bull College Advisory Board. She enjoyed teaching and was a positive role model for the young and old until she retired.
Lillian's favorite hobbies were dancing and designing outfits for her children and grandchildren. Emmett and Lillian where advisors for the Fort Yates High School Indian Club and took them on trips to perform in local powwows, schools, and as far away as New Mexico and Kentucky.
Her other hobbies include going bowling, playing bingo, attending her children's sporting events while they were in school and watching professional sports where she favored the Minnesota teams and her last favorite thing to do was supporting Indian Casino's.
She was a strong believer in family. She took many trips to see family like going to see her sister Magdalene and other family in California, taking her mother Rose to see relatives in Sisseton, SD. and going to visit family in Phoenix AZ. She enjoyed country living. Her favorite place to be was at her homestead outside of Bullhead SD.
Lillian died on August 26, 2015 at the Nursing Home in Sioux Falls South Dakota.
