Mass of Christian Burial for Lila Nelson, 89, of Mobridge will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, November 7, 2019 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mobridge. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 4 PM Wednesday with a Liturgical Wake Service at 5:30 PM at the funeral home. Lila passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019, at St. Vincent Care Center in Bismarck.

Lila Mae Nelson was born to August and Francis (Burckhard) Hoeft on June 2, 1930 in Leola, South Dakota. Lila attended Leola High School and then moved to Pierre, South Dakota to help her sister, June. Lila also worked at the Gamble Store in Pierre and met LeRoy (Roy) Nelson.

On June 14, 1952 Lila married LeRoy Nelson in Pierre at St. Peter's. In 1956, Roy and Lila moved to Mobridge where Roy was the manager of Gambles. Roy and Lila purchased the Gamble store in 1967 and sold the business in 1984.   Lila and Roy had five children, Nancy, Mary, Linda, Paul and James.

Roy passed away in 1991 and Lila continued to live in the house that they had built until October of 2016 when she moved to the Mobridge Nursing home. In May, 2017, Lila suffered a stroke and moved to St. Vincent's Care Center in Bismarck where she lived until her death.

Lila was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mobridge. Lila also was a member of the Women of the Moose and American Legion Auxiliary.

Lila enjoyed playing cards and played in various games at the Senior Center in Mobridge. Lila also enjoyed baking and listening to music especially old time polkas.

Lila is preceded in death by her husband Roy. Her parents, two sisters, June Kradle and Eleanor Lapka.

Lila leaves behind her five children, Nancy (Dennis) Seim of Lincoln, Ne, Mary Siverson of Bismarck, Linda (John) Stumpf of Bismarck, Paul (Lisa) of Bismarck and James of Chicago, Il, ten grandchildren, Patrick and Michael (Shannon) Seim of Lincoln, Jennifer (Damian) Schlinger, Tim Gienger, of Bismarck, Katie Stumpf of Moorhead, Kelli Stumpf of Jamestown, Kari (Jordan) Anderson, Chris (Kelsey) Nelson of Bismarck, Leah Nelson of Oak Park, Il and Melissa Nelson of North Las Vegas, 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
