Obituary

Prayer services for Lila L. Knittel age 89 of Mobridge and formerly of Rapid City will be Sunday, September 14, 2014 7:00PM at Kesling Funeral Chapel with visitation starting at 5:00 PM. Burial will be at 2:30 PM Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. Lila passed away Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Mobridge Regional Hospital.

She was born on November 18, 1924 in Lemmon, South Dakota to Henry N. and Gertrude (Johnson) Voigt. She attended all 12 grades of school in Lemmon and graduated in 1942.
Lila attended college at Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen where she received her teaching certificate. She taught at Pollock and Lemmon. She was a capable pianist having accompanying orchestra, choruses, soloists, and church groups while in high school. She loved her plants, flowers, and family.

On April 23, 1947, she married Harry Knittel of Lemmon, to which 4 children were born. On November, 1953 the family moved to Rapid City. She and her husband started their own business of painting and carpentry at which they worked side by side. She was a member of South Canyon Lutheran Church in Rapid City.
Due to poor health, they moved to Mobridge on September 2, 2005 to be near family.

Lila is survived by 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law; Louise Stiek of Orange Grove, Texas; Ann (Dennis) Eickhoff of Manteno, Illinois; and Helen (Kent) Mauck of Mobridge, SD; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Art, of New Hope, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harry on September 26, 2006, son, John Harry, parents, 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
