Obituary

Funeral service for Leslie N. Sjomeling, age 77 of Pollock, SD will be Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013 at 11 AM at Pollock Lutheran Church. Burial will be at 3 PM in Greenwood Cemetery in Mobridge under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be Wed. Jan. 30, 2013 from 3 - 7 PM with a prayer service at 7PM at Kesling Funeral Home. Les passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013 at the Linton Hospital, Linton, ND.

Leslie Norman Sjomeling was born July 7, 1935 in Campbell County to Arnie and Cora (Gunderson) Sjomeling. He married Anna Ryckman on July 22, 1952. They were the first one's married at the Hope Reformed Church in Westfield, ND. Les and Anna moved to Deadwood and worked with his Dad as a lumberjack. They headed west to Washington in 1956 where he worked as a Lumberjack and Apple Orchard before returning to South Dakota in 1957. Les worked various jobs until going to work for MDU in 1960 with Mobridge, Ellendale and Bismarck, ND. Les retired in 1995 and moved to Pollock, SD. In 1999 he married Judy Whithorn and spent many winters in Arizona.

Les was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, his love of fishing on the river, and in the younger years trap shooting, bowling, and softball. He also loved to play cards with his friends. In July 2012 hit his milestone and celebrated his 77th birthday on 7-7.

Les was a good joker and loved to pick on his great and many friends in Pollock. His last hours he even had to pick on the nurses. He will be missed by all of us.

Les is survived by his children, Cindy Sandmeier of Pollock, Janet (Les) Kosters, of Mobridge, Jackie (Bob) Vetsch of Pollock, Bonnie (Vern) Hill of Fargo, ND, Kenny (Patty) Sjomeling, of Bismarck, ND, 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren,2 brothers Robert Sjomeling, of Deadwood, Arne Sjomeling, of Spearfish, sister Carol Rajha, of Spearfish.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Mike in 1977, granddaughter Tracey in 1995, one brother Allen.

Casketbearers will be Mike Sjomeling, Travis Vetsch, Tony Vetsch, Shawn Stickney, BJ Weber and Jim Kosters.

Honorary bearers will be Tim Sjomeling, Cheryl Weber, Mike Kosters, Anna Weber, Tina Feist, Matthew Weber, Jason Sjomeling, Brian Sjomeling, Teri Vetsch, and Jeff Christman.
