Obituary

Funeral services for LeRoy Vrooman age 82 of Lantry will be 10:00 AM MST Monday at the UCC Church in Eagle Butte. Interment will be in the Eagle Butte Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Family and friends will meet at the four- mile Junction at 4 PM MST to begin the procession to Church for the prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m.

LeRoy Vrooman passed away peacefully on September 3, 2017, at Rapid City Regional Hospital. LeRoy was born on December 4, 1934, to Roy and Etta (Lindsay) Vrooman in Dupree, South Dakota. He grew up in the Eagle Butte area and has spent most of his life there. LeRoy graduated from Eagle Butte High School in 1955, where he was a superb athlete. LeRoy then enlisted in the United States Army where he served for two years. Upon discharge he married the love of his life Karen (Boehrs) Vrooman on May 13, 1957, in Eagle Butte. To this union Tom, Terri, Troy, and Trina were born. During their life together they lived in Lawton, Oklahoma, Montrose, Colorado, Eagle Butte, Pierre, Fort Thompson, Highmore, Rapid City, Black Hawk, and Lantry, South Dakota.

During LeRoy's life he had a great love of all animals, especially dogs. Flops and Diva were his favorites. LeRoy and his family traveled around where he worked on the man made dams. He spent much of his life ranching and farming. LeRoy loved to spend time with his grandkids and attending their activities. His favorite pastimes included bowling, fishing, playing slot machines, and he was a great gardener and took much pride in his lawn and flowers. LeRoy loved all sports especially the New England Patriots and the New York Yankees. A favorite for LeRoy was getting into football pools during football season.

During later years LeRoy had a lot of health issues but he never once complained. He loved to get together with his family. Many Sundays the Vrooman's sat around the TV watching football and enjoying each other. LeRoy put in many orders for his favorite food for Karen to make him. Homemade ice cream and cookies were his favorites.

LeRoy is survived by his wife Karen (Boehrs) Vrooman, his children Tom (Marsha) Vrooman, Terri (Dale) McLellan, Troy Vrooman(Heather), and Trina (Lou) Lends His Horse. They also welcomed a special daughter Jonni Hertel into their home. Darla Vrooman is a very special daughter-in-law. His grandchildren are Misty Vrooman, Kayla (Shane) Farlee, Cory (Lacey) Vrooman, Kerry (Mariah) McLellan, William Lends His Horse, Kelsey Vrooman (Terry), Kyla Vrooman (Jacob), Jace (Korey) Vrooman, Thomas Vrooman (Nichole), Dysan Lends His Horse, D'Aryn Lends His Horse (Erick), Demi Lends His Horse, and Daci Lends His Horse. LeRoy had 22 great grandchildren. LeRoy's siblings still living are Gail Vrooman, June Foley, Jessie Clausen, and Ralph (Rosella) Vrooman. One sister-in-law Linda Vrooman. He has two brother-in-laws; Gerry (Karen) Boehrs and Royce (Paula) Boehrs. Life long friends are Avin and JoAnn Martin. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

LeRoy is proceeded in death by his parents Roy and Etta (Lindsay) Vrooman. His siblings that have passed are Milford Vrooman, Margaret (Jim) Filholm, Gordon Vrooman, Lillian (Happy) Herren, Donald Vrooman, and Earl Vrooman. A brother in law Howard Clausen. His grandparents John (Rheta) Lindsay, and Loren and Lydia Vrooman. LeRoy's in-laws JT and Marge (Skates) Boehrs. His grandson Arleigh McLellan, and a special nephew Ralphie Vrooman.
