Him and his brother began working by mowing lawns and shoveling snow. As a young boy he spent 5 summers at the farm of his Aunt Phyllis and Uncle Jr. Prasek near Mound City.

He started working at Crawford's Family Grocery by dusting cans, shelves and cleaning floors. He worked for Jr. again at the Mobridge Iron Works by cleaning parts. In the fall he started working at the Mobridge Tribune as a pressman. Following was the National Tea Grocery stocking shelves and working his way up to Produce Manager.

In 1968 when the National Tea closed, he began his trucking career with the Mobridge Iron Works, going from Texas to Ft. St. John, British Columbia. He then worked for Jerry Couture at Jerry's Tire. The tucking bug hit, and he drove for Bagley Grain for a number of years. When the business ended he drove for Gurney Guffey.

In 1983 he purchased his first Semi. During his trucking career his CB handle was Water Buffalo. He was never afraid of a hard day's work. He was most proud of his shiny trucks, fast loud cars and enjoyed socializing with anyone who would visit. He drove semi until his retirement, due to his health.
