LeRoy A. Freimark was born on February 17, 1933 in a sod house on a farm near Java, SD to Arthur and Claudia (Balliet) Freimark. He grew up on the farm and attended high school in Java through his sophomore year; receiving his GED at a later time. LeRoy worked for the Milwaukee Railroad licensed telegraphy operator and train station supervisor prior to enlisting in the US Air Force in 1952. He proudly served his country as an airplane mechanic for twenty years, and was honorably discharged in 1972. On September 4, 1955, LeRoy married Janet Mae Elliot in Spokane, Washington. LeRoy's first offshore military assignment was at Osan Air Base near Seoul, Korea taking place during the Korean War. During his service, he completed two tours of duty in England; and was also stationed in Spokane, WA, Minot, ND, Ogden, UT, and Rapid City, SD.
Following his discharge from the Air Force, LeRoy and his family moved to Mobridge. He spent the following 24 ½ years working as an auto mechanic at Davidson Chevrolet; currently known as Beadle Chevrolet. Although LeRoy finished his career as a mechanic in 1966, he wasn't done working yet. Being a strong advocate for Veterans and their families, he served as the Walworth County Veteran Service Officer for the next thirteen years. LeRoy retired from the VSO role in 2010 at the age of 78.
LeRoy was active in the Mobridge community over the years, which included being a volunteer Fire Fighter, member of the American Legion Post #4, and various other organizations. His true passion was being a Mason, where he dedicated 18 years supporting their mission as a Master Mason. He particularly enjoyed fundraising activities for the Shriners Hospitals. LeRoy served two terms as the Master Mason of the Lodge from 2001-2002 and 2008-2009.
LeRoy was a self-taught carpenter and truly loved working with his hands, building his garage and screen porch. He enjoyed making birthdays and holidays special for his loved ones, and spending time with his grandsons whenever possible. LeRoy also liked working on his vehicles, and spending time outdoors; taking great pride in his yard, flowers, and garden.
