Obituary

Funeral service for Lavonne Wilkinson age 70 of McLaughlin will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the McLaughlin Blue Gym. Burial will be in the St. James Catholic Cemetery in Porcupine, ND under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. All night wake will start at 5:00 PM Monday, May 9, 2016 at the Gym. Lavonne passed away Monday, May 2, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Mobridge.

Paulette LaVonne Wilkinson Goodiron was born February 19, 1946 to William and Elizabeth Carry Moccasin (Goodiron) in Fort Yates, North Dakota. She went to school at St. Bernard's Mission School and Standing Rock Elementary. She graduated from Fort Yates High School in 1964. Then LaVonne attended the University of North Dakota, graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. LaVonne was also a Dorm Matron. LaVonne stated working as a teacher in 1974 at the Standing Rock Elementary which she taught for 15 years.

LaVonne met Richard Wilkinson which they married in 1980, within the marriage they raised 1 son Brian, LaVonne lost her husband in January 1988, she left Fort Yates in 1989 and moved to McLaughlin. Then started working for the Bear Solider Head Start. She was employed there for 24 years. LaVonne resigned and wanted to spend time with her grandchildren. She remained in McLaughlin until she entered the Spirt World.

LaVonne was award a certificate from the McLaughlin School for her donation on their new playground.
LaVonne loved to read and work on crossword puzzles and visit with her friends and family. Her passion was being with her grandchildren, following them around to football and Basketball games. The 3 grandson were on the teams. LaVonne loved going to Bingo and the Casino for her leisure time.

LaVonne has this laugh that could make you laugh anywhere in the room. She loved beaded earrings that she bought from people or she bought, she had over a 100 pairs.

While LaVonne worked, she raised her son Brian and then helped raise three Grandson, Bryan Jr., Daimon, Jayden. Those three were her life but, also loved all her grandchildren. Took care of one nephew when he was young (Dean). She also took care of another nephew (Kyle). LaVonne helped a lot of people in their time of need. Also she helped her sister (Peggy) a lot.

LaVonne is survived by her son Brian, Sr. one nephew Dean Goodiron, one sister Peggy Hawk Bear, 14 grandchildren Bryan Jr, Daimon, Jayden Ducheneaux, Byron Jr., Whisper, Jacob, Jay'ce Hawk Bear, Melyssa, Meriyah, Savana, Drevan Hawk Bear, Kail Hawk Bear, Tashena Goodiron, Malachi Goodiron, 4 nephews, Bryon Sr., Alwin Jr., Matthew and Kyle Hawk Bear, brother-in-law, AL Hawk Bear Sr.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents William and Elizabeth Carry Moccasin (Goodiron), husband Richard Wilkinson, 2 sisters, Irene King, Jeanette Goodiron, 2 nieces, Bonita Goodiron, Alissia Hawk Bear, 1 nephew Billy Elk, 1 grandson Drake Lee Hawk Bear.
