Mass of Christian Burial for LaVonne "Lovey" St. John-White Bull, daughter of Elaine St. John and the late Alvord St. John will be held on November 18, 2017, 11:00 am at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Kenel South Dakota. Rosary on November 17, 2017 at 7:00 pm Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kenel South Dakota.
LaVonne was born on May 15, 1963 in Fort Yates North Dakota, she attended the Pierre Indian Learning Center, Pierre South Dakota where she was an avid basketball player, scoring an average of 22 points per game, as featured in the Pierre Capital Journal newspaper. She then transferred to Stephan High School to play basketball for the Crow Creek Chieftains as starting five until her graduation in May 1981.
Upon graduation LaVonne worked at various jobs and became a homemaker to Wade, Tomi, Toni, DJay and Lourdes. In 1989 she was involved in a car accident, spending the remainder of her life in a wheelchair. In 2009 she married Gordon White Bull making their home in Fort Yates until his passing in 2015.
LaVonne loved her children and was proud of their accomplishments, she especially was very protective of her baby Lourdes. LaVonne loved her grandchildren and enjoyed the time she was able to spend with them, she will be greatly missed by many who she met and instantly became friends. LaVonne was known to make a person laugh and had the knack to rename people she met, most who still answer to those given names.
LaVonne is survived by her mother Elaine of Kenel, four children, Wade, Toni (Edmund) of Aberdeen South Dakota, DJay and Lourdes of Fort Yates North Dakota. Many grandchildren, Three brothers, Lance, Sterling (Donna), Kerby all of rural Kenel South Dakota. One sister Eunice of Crow Creek South Dakota, Aunts Germaine Demery and Shirley Poitra and one uncle Clayton (Faye) Left Hand of rural Kenel.
Her father Alvord, daughters Tomi and Destiny, son Tyler, husband Gordon White Bull, brothers Al Jr., Merle, Bobby, Maynard, Dean, Tad, Verl and Vernon, Paternal Grandparents Benjamin and Annie (Smells the Earth) St. John, Maternal Grandparents George and Mary Jane (Poitra) Left Hand preceded LaVonne in death. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge, South Dakota is entrusted with arrangements.
