Funeral services for Landen Carter Red Bear, 11, of Wakpala, will be at 10 AM MT, Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte. Burial will be at St. Peter Episcopal Cemetery in Thunder Butte under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. There will be a prayer service on Monday at 6 PM MT at the church and on Sunday at Kesling Funeral Home at 6 PM CT. Landen passed away Monday, August 21, 2023, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip, South Dakota.

Landen Red Bear an enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe was born on January 25, 2012, to his mother Donell Red Bear. He attended multiple schools, touching hearts wherever he went. He attended United Tribes Headstart, Crazy Horse School his last year of Headstart and into kindergarten. He then moved on to Chamberlain most of 1st grade then on to Sioux Falls Laura Wilder where he would attend 2nd-4th grades. Wakpala School would be his last grade to finish, 5th, and he was so excited for the start of his junior high, 6th grade year at East Middle School in Rapid City.

Landen had a kind, big heart, that would draw you in the moment you met him. His laugh was contagious and only a few people were allowed to hear it. His smile could be remembered as a kind and gentle hello. He had future plans laid out with goals in mind. His ultimate goal would be to win his grandpa his state title and we assure you he would have been the kid to do it. He loved to play video games and get on his sister's nerves. He joked and teased and knew his sports. He lived his life to the fullest. He excelled in sports. He would say he loved basketball but secretly had a passion for football. He is the greatest son you could ask for.

Landen Carter is survived by his mother, Donell Red Bear, sister, Arianna Red Bear, dad, Silas "Tate" Blaine Jr., big brother, Ethan Doc Anpo Banks, big sister, Tatyum Bailey Banks, grandma, Lola Blaine, Grandpas, Silas Blaine Sr. and Arvin Red Bear, and all his relatives, all his Hunka relatives, friends and all that have touched his heart.

He is preceded in death by great grandmas, Ilene Red Bear and Gladys Hawk, great grandpa, William Red Bear, cousins, Kyla Red Bear and Tiauna Red Bear, uncle, Dominique St. Pierre.
