Funeral services for Kimbert Renee (Story) Red Legs, age 44, of Eagle Butte will be at 11 AM MT, Saturday, December 18, 2010 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte. An all night wake will be on Friday with services at 7 PM MT at the church. Family and friends will meet at the four mile junction at 4 PM MT Friday. Kim passed away Sunday, December 12, 2010 in Eagle Butte. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.

Kimbert Renee (Story) Red Legs was born on October 24, 1966 to Eugene Story and Margie Lafferty Story. She entered into the spirit world on Sunday, December 12, 2010. Kimbert was the youngest of six (6) children. Kim attended 1st – 8th grade at St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, SD. She also attended school in Rapid City and Mobridge, SD through the 10th grade, and then she entered the Job Corps program in Nemo, SD.

Following Job Corps Kim met Richard Johnson of Lower Brule and to this union two children were born Clinton James Johnson and Austin Lee Johnson. After leaving Lower Brule she returned to Rapid City, SD to be closer to her mother, Margie. In 1986, Kim and Margie returned to Eagle Butte to live. In 1989 Kim begin dating Cayetano Falcon. During this time Kim developed a long lasting relationship with Cayetano's daughters; Desa (Falcon) Caldwell, Elijia Falcon and Luticia Falcon. At this time, Tonia Lynn, niece of Kim's, also became a special part of her life and later became an adopted daughter. In April 1992 Kim and Cayetano became foster parents to CyBlu Johnson Berndt. In 1995 Kim wed George Berndt of Eagle Butte, SD. In 1996 George and Kim opened NAPA Auto Parts in Eagle Butte, SD. During this time they continued to be foster parents to CyBlu and in 1998 they were able to finalize the adoption. In 2004/2005 Kim married Elray Red Legs of McLaughlin, SD where they continued to make their home. Kim traveled back and forth between Eagle Butte and McLaughlin taking care of her mother, Margie and mother-in-law, Donna until the time of her death.

Through out her life Kim worked at many different places including motels, nursing homes, and a flower shop. She enjoyed cleaning, reading books, listening to music and watching movies. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. Kim enjoyed her nieces and nephews and was always so proud of them. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Kim is survived by her mother Margie Story of Eagle Butte, SD; her father Eugene Story of Mobridge, SD; her husband Elray Red Legs of McLaughlin, SD; two sons; Clinton "CJ" (Robyn) Johnson and CyBlu Johnson; two grandchildren, KaiLoni Lee Johnson and Austin LeRoy Johnson, all of Eagle Butte, SD; adopted daughter, Tonia Lynn (Kiel) Rodriquez-Lemke of Eagle Butte, SD; four sisters; Mary (Mark) Nitzskorski of Trapper Creek, AK; Cheryl Gibson of Wichita, KS; Patricia Story of Watertown, SD and LeeAnn Schumaucher of Rapid City, SD; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Kim is preceded in death by one son, Austin Lee Johnson; one brother, Clinton Eugene Story; Maternal grandparents Julia Lafferty and Bert Lafferty and Solomon Grey Bear; Paternal grandparents, Edith Story and Floyd Story; Aunts, Crystal Glenn, Belle Jewett, Marylou Wager, Florence LaBatte; Uncles, Douglas Lafferty, Walter Lafferty Sr. Charles Lafferty and Arthur Lafferty.
