Memorial services for Kerry Larson, age 57 of McLaughlin will be at 1 PM MT, on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in McLaughlin. Kerry passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Mobridge Regional Hospital. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridgeis in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Cancer Treatment Center of America, Gateway for Cancer Research,1336 Basswood Rd, Schaumburg, IL 60173.

Kerry was born May 27, 1956 in Watertown, SD to Sherman (Shorty) and Ruby (Falde) Larson. He lived on a farm near Hayti, SD until November 16, 1962 when the family moved to the farm near Bullhead. He attended school in McLaughlin, graduating in 1974. He attended SDSU in Brookings; graduating in 1978 with a BS in Physical Education and Economics. Kerry had started swimming in McLaughlin and continued it during his time at SDSU. He started teaching in McLaughlin in August 1978 as a Teacher and Swim Coach. He lived on the family farm helping his father until Sherman's death in 1983. He married Dorothy Moriarty on January 3, 1987 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in McLaughlin. Twins were born in Bismarck, ND on May 16, 1990 bringing the family to a total of 7. The family moved into McLaughlin in 1999. Kerry began working at the Corson/Sioux County News-Messenger for Merle Lofgren in 2000. He purchased the paper in 2008.

Kerry enjoyed camping, boating and tubing on the river, gardening, growing anything, farming, carpentry, playing cards and John Deere tractors. Kerry also was the cook for the Cottonwood Ranch Branding crew when he was in High school. He loved coaching, and enjoyed supporting all 5 children as they swam competitively as well as following and supporting the Northern State University Girls Swim Team, whom his daughter Brooke swam for in college, around the western part of the country .

He was a member of McLaughlin Lions, McLaughlin Volunteer Fire Dept. and past president of McLaughlin Education Association.

Kerry has been battling bone cancer, which for some unknown reason was starting in soft tissue for the last 5 years and had been traveling to Chicago every 3 weeks for the last 3 years for experimental treatment.

Kerry is survived by his wife Dorothy of McLaughlin, children; Dyneil Moriarty (Mitch Carry Moccasin) of Denver, Co, Sean "Tim" (Nichole) Moriarty of Denver, Co, Shannon (Pat) Moriarty Dutisman of Boise, ID, Erik Larson of McLaughlin, SD, and Danielle "Brooke" Larson of Spartanburg, SC, Grandchildren Daylyn Moriarty, Keely Moriarty, Laken Hildebrant, MiLeey Carry Moccasin, Dezmon Carry Moccasin, Riley Dutisman, Sean Dutisman. His 2 dogs; Pookey and Polly. Brothers; Dan Larson of Morristown, SD, Martin Larson of Timber Lake, sisters; Valerie (George) Chalmers of McLaughlin, Melinda Larson of Milbank, SD and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
