Kenneth passed away August 27, 2014 at his home in Eagle Butte, SD.

Kenneth Duane Kost, age 59, was born October 25, 1954, in Eagle Butte, SD to Fred and Marie Kost. Kenny passed away peacefully at the ranch south of Eagle Butte on August 27, 2014. Kenny attended Cheyenne-Eagle Butte School, graduating in 1975. He participated in High School rodeo and excelled in wrestling, and for a time held the fastest pin record at C-EB. After graduation Kenny and fellow classmate, Bob Peterson, traveled from Wyoming to Texas working on large cattle ranches.
Upon returning to Eagle Butte he met and married Rebecca Avery on August 19, 1976 in Pierre, SD. Three daughters were born to this union, Katie, Kendra and KC. For the next several years with the help of Oliver LaBlanc, fondly known as "Uncle Oliver" they built a ranch operation near the Cheyenne River on Herbert (a-bear) Creek. Kenny and Becky purchased an Old Agency house and moved it to a location north of the Kost Homestead. For a time Kenny's family lived in Washington state where Kenny worked for Triple T Construction with his brother-in-law, Leon Avery. They returned to Eagle Butte where Kenny continued ranching with his father.
Kenny spent the rest of his days living south of Eagle Butte and was a ready hand for fellow ranchers and friends, which also included riding and helping train his long time friend Lyle Ducheneaux's race horses. After his father Fred's death, Kenny was instrumental in assisting and carrying on the ranching operation, using his skills as a rancher until his death.
Kenny was known for his quick wit, sense of humor and detailed memory in recounting stories. He enjoyed music, friends, family, and always had a dog by his side. Kenny could never let a sad situation last very long before he brought smiles and laughter to replace the tears.
Kenneth Duane Kost was known by most of his friends as "Penrod". Rest in peace Penrod.
Kenny is survived by his daughters, Katie (Drew) Kalenze, Kendra (Troy Hoff) Kost, KC (Manuel Romero) Kost; Aunts Anna Kost and Betty Lou Kost Brothers Butch (Renee') Kost, Steven F. Kost; sister, Judy (Martin) Albl, Grandchildren, Kianna Eagle Chasing Brayden Avery, Ethan Eagle Chasing, Delancy Blue Arm, Mikaelee Hoff, Bently Romero, cousins, many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Kenny was preceded in death by his father Fred Kost, mother Marie (Jensen) Kost, uncle John Kost, uncle Anton Kost, infant uncle Stephan Kost and infant aunt.
