Funeral services for Kenneth Casey, age 69, of Mobridge will be at 10 AM, Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be at 3 PM Friday with a prayer service at 7 PM at the funeral home. Kenneth passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Kenny was born on July 15th, 1942 in Aberdeen, SD to Robert E Casey and Otillie Schutz Casey. He grew up in Mobridge and Glenham SD graduating from Glenham High School in 1961.
Kenny enlisted in the USAF after graduation and was stationed in San Antonio, TX receiving an honorable discharge in 1965. He was married to Judith Ann Bohlander on June 19, 1965. They began their lives together in Milwaukee, WI and joyfully welcomed their first child Scott Kenneth in June 1966; soon after the family moved to Washington where they had daughter Mary Suzann in March 1969.
Ken worked as a machinist at The Boeing Company and Heath Techna until he decided to pursue his passion for cars by taking a job at Bowen Scarff Ford in Kent. Kenny's love for automobiles and his charismatic attitude allowed him to enjoy a long and fulfilling career retiring in 1996. His first grandchild Amanda Nicole was born in December 1985 and second grandchild Hailey Suzann in October 1995. Soon after retirement Ken moved back to his hometown of Glenham, SD.
Soon after his return to Glenham Ken met Phyllis Shillingstad in 1997 and their relationship grew into a loving and wonderful life which they shared together 12 years. Their lives together were cut short when Phyllis suddenly lost her battle with cancer in November 2009.
Kenny enjoyed the many gatherings and holidays with Phyllis and her children; Wendy & Deb Lawrence, Kim and John Villbrandt, and Jason and Meagan Shillingstad, and their extended family.
Kenny enjoyed traveling back to Seattle regularly visiting his family and he especially loved the annual Portland Swap Meet which he attended with all of his brothers, cousins and son; nothing could put a smile to his face quicker than a nice car.
He is survived by children Scott Casey of Lake Tapps, WA and Mary Suzann of Bonney Lake, WA, brothers Dennis and Betty of Rapid City, Robert and Ardell of Kalispell, MT, Robbie and Doris of North Pole, AK, Boyd and Shellie of Black Diamond, WA; sisters Sherrie and Leland VanOrman, Park City, MT and Bonnie of Tacoma WA and multitude of nieces and nephews to numerous to name. Grandchildren, Amanda Nicole, Hailey Suzann and Reanna Jae.
Ken was preceded in death by his sisters Roberta, Carol, parents, grandparents and niece Chantel.
