Funeral services for Kathryn Bartlett age 98 of Timber Lake will be 10:00 AM MT Friday, November 21, 2014 at the United Parish Church. Burial will be in the Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Kathryn passed away, Monday, November 17, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Mobridge.
Kathryn Bartlett was born February 6, 1916 in Haviland, Kansas to William Harrison & Martha Lucille (Corrigan) Laird. Kate was born on a farm SW of Haviland and attended Farmington rural school, graduating from High School in 1933.
On August 8, 1933 she married Hebrew (Heb) Bartlett in Kinsley Kansas, where they farmed. In 1961 they moved to South Dakota and purchased the Hattie Crance farm 7 miles west of Timber Lake. For three years they farmed both in Kansas and South Dakota Heb passed away in March 1991 and because Kate's eyesight was failing she moved off the Bartlett farm into Timber Lake.
Kate volunteered at the food pantry, and coordinated efforts with politicians and the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe for the necessary repairs and remodeling to the Timber Lake Manor. She was also head cook of the Timber Lake School and retired in 1987. She also served as coordinator and head cook at the senior nutrition site in Timber Lake. Kate was generous with making homemade noodles for fund raisers for the Timber Lake community, and would bring as much as $60.00 a package at the auctions.
Kate entered the Golden Living Center in Mobridge on November 14, 2009 where she has since resided until the time of her death.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and had served as
Worthy Matron while living in Kansas and also when she lived in Timber Lake. She also served as the Grand Representative for the Eastern Star in South Dakota.
Kate is survived one son; Dean (Jill) Bartlett of Pierre, SD, one daughter-in-law Lois Bartlett of Timber Lake, 6 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren and 8 Great Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one son Melvin (Butch) Bartlett in 2005.
