Kathleen Marie Silk was born September 28, 1950, in Ft. Yates, North Dakota, the daughter of Thomas and Bessie (Jordan) Silk. She attended the Stephen Board School and Ft Yates High School but received her GED in 1977.

Kathleen met the love of her life, Jack Ward, in Ft. Yates, North Dakota. Jack and Kathleen were married on September 10, 1971 at Ft. Yates. On March 5, 1972 Kimberly Rae Ward was born in Ft. Yates, ND, they moved to Washington State, where Jack worked for Common Wealth Electric and they spent their first years together. They then moved to Montpelier, Idaho where Jackie Sue Ward was born in a Mormon Hospital on August 22, 1974. In 1975, Jacks father fell ill so they moved to South Dakota and helped run the family ranch at Timber Lake, SD. On June 10, 1979 Cotton Robert Ward was born in Bismarck, ND.

Kathleen always had a love for children. She worked in McLaughlin, Timber Lake and Little Eagle as a Head Start and Pre-School teacher. Her last working years were spent working at the Youth Treatment Center at Mobridge. Kathleen received many honors and rewards working at Head Start that she cherished very much.

Through the years, Kathleen was a weekend secretary and timer for a couple hundred ropings over the years. She also spent a lot of her time on the road with her husband Jack going to rodeos as well as spending time with her grandkids and being their biggest fan at their sporting events. Kathleen was also an animal lover. She loved her cats and dogs and was often seen in her night gown feeding her cats warm oatmeal on cold winter mornings before going to work. She also enjoyed going to the casino and playing the slot machines where her luck always showed through. The last few years, Kathleen took up playing poker which she loved. She even got good enough to be second best at the table.

During her time in Timber Lake, Kathleen was a member of the Timber Lake Saddle Club, Timber Lake Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She will be remembered for her goofy personality and the love and kindness she shared with everyone that knew her.
