Funeral services for Karl Quenzer, age 89, of Mobridge will be 2 PM Friday, Sept. 9, 2011 at First Baptist in Mobridge. Burial will be Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday with a prayer service at 7 PM at the Funeral Home. Karl passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Karl was born August 3, 1922 to Karl and Marie (Brockel) Quenzer at Mound City, South Dakota. He attended Herreid High School and graduated in 1942. He joined the United States Army serving with the Occupation Force in Japan, Karl was honorably discharged in 1946.
He married Mariam Oswald on June 28, 1949 at Java, SD and to this union a daughter Dixie was born. Karl and Mariam moved to Fargo, ND where he attended Barber School. They then moved to Billings, MT for a short time before moving to Redfield where he worked as a barber. In 1962 they moved to Mobridge where he opened Deluxe Barber Shop retiring in 2002.
Karl was a member of the First Baptist Church serving as a deacon and usher for many years. Karl was a lifetime member of the Parker-Browder American Legion Post #4 of Mobridge. Karl loved and enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Karl is survived by his wife of 62 years Mariam Quenzer of Mobridge, daughter Dixie of Java, granddaughter, Laura (Rob) Johnson, of Colorado Springs, CO., grandson, Kody Lippelt of Denver, Co., great-grandchildren Braden, Brittney and Bailey Johnson all of Colorado Springs, CO., brother Albert (Alvina) Quenzer of Eureka, two sisters, Martha Renz of Herreid and Irene Renz of Paul, ID.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Art, Ed, Teddy, Johnie, Adam, and a sister, Esther.
