Judith Kay Werner was born on September 23rd, 1940, to Earl & Ramona (Johnson) Werner, in Eureka, SD. Judy was raised on the Werner Ranch, 10 miles West of Herreid; attending elementary and high school in Herreid, graduating with the class of 1958.
On November 8th, 1959 she married Earl Fjeldheim of Pollock, SD at Peace Lutheran Church in Herreid, SD. The couple made their home on the Werner ranch where Judy grew up. To this union they were blessed with 4 children. Lonnie Dean in 1960, Lori Lynn in 1962, Kim Jay in 1963 & Kent Earl in 1973.
Judy was a member of Pollock Lutheran Church in Pollock, SD but was also very active at Peace Lutheran Church in Herreid, SD. Judy was a member of the Friendly Neighbors Extension Club for many years, where she served as President for a length of time. She also served on the Herreid All School Reunion Committees and enjoyed helping to organize this event for her town and all of her school mates.
She was very active and was a go-getter. She loved being on the move. Judy worked at the Cattlemen's Café at Herreid Livestock Market, Herreid, SD for many years along with Patsy's Cafe. Following her work at the café, her love of cattle brought her to a milking job at Sjomeling Dairy, Pollock, SD. Not only did Judy enjoy these jobs, but also loved farm life very much and was active in every aspect. In 2012, she & Earl moved into Herreid. She never skipped a beat and went to the farm every day. Judy was taken out of the country but you couldn't take the country out of Judy.
Judy loved to entertain and hosted gatherings for the whole family at the holidays. She loved to cook and bake and her dishes were second to none. Her whole life was dedicated to raising her family and attending their events. Her favorite role was being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, in which no one could have done a better job. She found joy in the simplest things and deeply cared for her family, friends, and loved ones. Judy had a smile that could light up a room and was a very positive person. Never once would you hear her complain or speak an ill word of anyone.
