Judith passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Good Samaritan Center of Selby, SD.
Judy was born on October 4, 1936 to Bud and Alice (Kaiser) Prann in Timber Lake, SD. She grew up in Timber Lake and attended Holy Cross Catholic school and Timber Lake High School. She graduated in 1955 and married her high school sweetheart Frankie Schweitzer. They lived for a short time on the Schweitzer farm before moving to Mobridge and then Hettinger, ND. After moving back to the farm, Frank and Judy raised a family of six. Judy spent the first years of marriage chasing after her children (which was no small feat if you know her children), milking cows, butchering chickens and running to and from the fields with parts, equipment and food. She didn't have a lot of hobbies, because she had Frank and he had hobbies. He started things and she finished them.
After all of the children, except Missy, had graduated from school, Judy started working in the Timber Lake School cafeteria. She was baker and started out making homemade rolls and cinnamon rolls, then moved on to cook and head cook. She was a favorite of students and staff, not only because she was a great cook, but also because she was a kind and positive person. She was there for many years and her family remembers this as one of her happiest times because she loved the friends she had and worked with every day in the school. She took pride in her work there and loved seeing the kids through the years. Even in her most recent challenges, when she wasn't 'with us' she was reliving her school cafeteria days. Both while she was working and after she retired, she and Frank traveled frequently ranging from Florida to Alaska and many points in between, exploring new places and visiting friends and family.
The things that Judy did enjoy were playing gin and solitaire, walking the gravel road by the farm, growing flowers and vegetables, journaling, reading, watching the changing variety of farm cats and dogs, and above all else spoiling her grandkids. She spent hours feeding, rocking, and playing with all of her grand children and great grandchildren from the oldest to the youngest (and everyone in between, even some that weren't hers). She always enjoyed coffee and dessert and the chance to sit down and share both with family and friends. She is remembered as a great listener, problem solver, and peacemaker.
We will miss our mother, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend. He saw that she was getting tired and it was time. We were all sad to see her be sick, but we all knew we couldn't hold her here any longer. Wednesday, June 3 , God took mercy on her soul and called her home.
She is survived by six children: Kathy (Jerry) of East Wenatchee, Wa; Tim (Bitts) of Glencross, SD; Mary (Donnie) of Dupree, SD; Pat (Bonita) of Gillette, WY; Mark (Betsy) of East Wenatchee, WA; and Missy (James) of Elkhorn, NE; one sister Beverly (Al) Holzer of Springfield, Mo and Bill (Casey ) Prann of Rapid City, SD; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Alice Prann and her husband, Frank.
