Memorial services for Juan Fernandez, 71, of Eagle Butte will be at 10 AM, January 11, 2024, at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.

Juan M. Fernandez 71, of Eagle Butte passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024 in Camp Crook, SD. Juan was born on January 15, 1953 in Camp Wood, Tx, to Manuel Florentino Fernandez and Carmen Muñoz Chavez.

Juan had met his soul mate Shirley Ducheneaux many many years ago and from there forward they got to share and make over 40 + years of memories together. They resided in Eagle Butte, SD. Juan always had a kind word, loved to laugh and especially enjoyed cooking and feeding everyone his special brisket.  Juan got to know many in the community as he delivered his tasty breakfast burritos daily.  This had earned him the name Juan "The Burrito Man" as many in the community called him.

Juan was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan.  It did not matter that year after year they let him down.  He stayed true and loyal to his team.  This is just the type of person Juan was.

Juan always enjoyed visiting (whether in person or on the phone) with those he considered sisters and brothers. Marilyn Balderas, LaVern Martin, Mary Rousseau, Susie Rousseau, Danny and Gail Martin, Tiny Martin, Roxee Holloway, Andrea Salas and Ruben Balderas.

Juan is survived by his children, Daughter, Lea (Greg)Arnett, Philip, NE, Grandchildren Jasmine Johnson (Central City, NE) great grandsons Kane, Maddox and Roman. Daughter, Tessa Norgaard-Jensen (Jeffrey Kitchen) Sioux Falls, SD. Grandchildren Sydney (Dylan) Kinsley and great grandsons Kyler, Murdo, SD. Son, DJ Juan Fernandez and children (Texas), Sons, Richard and Raymond and Son, Kyle Ducheneaux, Eagle Butte, SD who was always there by his side.

Bonus children (who he raised as his own) Nicole L. Ducheneaux, Pierre, SD, Mary F. Ducheneaux, Timber Lake, SD, Michelle M. Ducheneaux and Carmen R. Ducheneaux of Eagle Butte, SD. Juan had a total of 26 grandchildren including Mario Ducheneaux, Tylor Ducheneaux, granddaughter Nevah Fernandez of Timber Lake, SD and great grandson Rymerick "Remy" Anderson, of Eagle Butte, SD.

Many nieces and nephews as well who also looked up to Juan as "Tio", "Dad", "Papa" or "Grandpa" and his half-sister Lupita. Juan was a kind and humble man who loved everyone and just genuinely wanted to make people happy and see them smile.

He was preceded in death by his parents Manuel F. Fernandez and Carmen Munoz Chavez, his sister Andrea Salas, brother Manuel Fernandez, sister San Juana Contreres, half-brother Cody V. Jewett and his soul mate Shirley Ducheneaux.
