Joyce L. Circle Eagle Marshall Hill was born on July 22,1940 to Clarence Circle Eagle and Helen Roach at the Old Agency. She attended school at the Old Agency from grade to high school. She obtained her GED later in life.
Joyce called Red Scaffold, SD home. She raised 5 of her children here as well as running a ranch. She met many lifelong friends and looked forward to the annual Red Scaffold Fair and Rodeo. She cherished her prayer services at the Knife Ranch in Red Scaffold until her health failed and she was no longer able to travel alone.
Joyce moved the family to Eagle Butte, SD. Joyce attended Hennepin County Regional dialysis unit and became a certified technician. Upon graduation she began working for Dr. Pence at the Eagle Butte dialysis unit. She enjoyed this job and was instrumental in the management of the clinic. During this time, she also assisted Louie Lesmeister with his home dialysis until he was accepted as a patient at the Eagle Butte unit.
Joyce enjoyed spending time with family and friends. You would often find her congregating at football and basketball games, wrestling and volleyball matches, graduations, church functions, birthday parties, brandings, rodeos, pow-wows and last and most of all, horse races. The telephone was her lifeline. She spent countless hours visiting on the phone. She was never without her phone, coffee, cigarettes, Vicks®, Holy Water or
Bible.
"Grandma J's" pride and joy were her grandchildren, all generations. She looked forward to her visits with them and would always find something for them to leave with whether it be knowledge, money, food or comfort. She adored them with all her heart and soul. She was fortunate to have an instrumental part in raising Gilbert, Jimi, Michael, Darci, Kelli, and Bailey. Joyce suffered a multitude of health issues over the last decade. In 2013, she received "Koby" and he became her favorite topic to talk about and gave her a new lease on life. This horse championed her many times and provided her with many trips to the casino.
Her health began to fail drastically in October, 2017. She was admitted to the Firesteel nursing home on December 23, 2017. She passed peacefully in her sleep and entered the Spirit World on January 14, 2018. She was the family historian and took a lot of knowledge and tradition with her. She has touched many lives through her journey on this earth.
