Memorial services for Joyce Anderson, 93, of Mobridge will be at 11 AM, Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. Mrs. passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
Joyce Marie (Thompson) Anderson was born on February 16, 1923 in Sioux Falls and was soon adopted by Jersing and Marie Thompson, joining a five year old adopted son Paul. They lived in Hartington, NE, before moving to Muskegon, MI. In 1935 her family moved to Burr Oak, IA. Joyce graduated from Decorah High School in 1940. She then attended St. Olaf College and St. Mary's School of Nursing in Rochester. In 1944 she moved back to Iowa and worked in Cedar Rapids. Following her mother's passing Joyce moved to Woodworth, ND, to be with her father. When he retired in 1949, they both moved to Minneapolis, MN. Joyce worked for North American Life and Casualty, Ministers Life and Casualty and Federated Mutual in Owatonna. In 1964 Joyce moved to Minneapolis and went to work for Dayton Development. She continued working there until 1971 when she married Burt Anderson and moved to Mobridge.
She enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, singing in the church choir, reading. While in Mobridge she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in the women's group and was Chairman of Education. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary since 1971, serving as president and president-elect. Joyce was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Bridge City Concert Association and was Chairman of the Membership Drive for many years. She was active in two bridge clubs and Arts and Travel Club.
Following Burt's retirement in 1986, they spent their winter months in Arizona, where they played lots of golf, read, play cards and just generally enjoy life in the warm climate.
She is survived by her husband, Burt of Mobridge, children, Barbara, Jill, and Roger, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Paul.
