Private memorial services for Joseph Anthony Verbanac, 81, of McLaughlin, SD, will be held on April 4th, 2024, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in McLaughlin. Burial will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery on Friday, April 5th, under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Joseph passed away in his sleep at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center CLC near Sturgis, SD, on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024.

Joseph was born in L'Anse, MI, to Steve and Lillian (Cadotte) Verbanac. He grew up and attended school there before moving west to the Mobridge, SD, area in the late 1950s. On July 20th, 1963, he married Rosemary Baer in Mobridge, SD. In 1966, he was drafted into the US Army until his honorable discharge in 1968. Then, in 1971, Joseph and his family moved to McLaughlin, SD, so he could begin working at the IHS Clinic, where he was employed as the facility's maintenance engineer until his retirement in 2004.

He is survived by his wife Rosemary, son Josef, daughter Bridget (Lonny), granddaughter Hannah, brothers Steve, Robert (Sharon), Lyle (Colleen), David (Connie), and Daniel, and sisters Dorothy, Theresa, Rita (Lawrence), and Virginia (William).

He is preceded in death by his parents Steve and Lillian, and siblings Helen, Carol and Gerald.
